Do I have to spend time on what I wear every day,
Do I have to ponder over choices, can't I just do it my way?
Do I have to take an exam when all I want to do is read,
Do I have to listen to everything and follow your lead?
Do I have to keep practicing what I have to say,
Or can I just do things completely my way?
What if all I want is to pave my own path,
And not live in your shadow, waiting for the aftermath
What if I have a voice of my own to express how I feel,
What if I have dreams of my own that I no longer will conceal?
Do I have to go left when you go left, or can I just take a right,
Do I have to follow your footsteps and watch you take the limelight?
While you decide your wardrobe and practice what to say,
I'll forget what the world thinks and do this my way.
