The Glories of Victories

The wind whipping past your shoulders,

 Your heart singing with pride

That widespread smirk of victory,

 Taken with confident strides

To notice your opponent's next moves,

To creep into their every strategy

To know what their thinking and their every move,

To memorize all the analogies

To see the light leave their eyes,

To find the fire ignited in yours instead

To have that moment of egotism,

And stay wound up in your head

Most people state it's not the victories that matter,

But rather the adventure as a whole

But isn't it mostly the ups and downs in life that we mention,

And not the trophies that we stole

The game is the memory that will live with us forever,

But competition is part of the process

The tension and the excitement are all built up,

Because of those gains and losses

The overwhelming cheers,

 The warm sounds of applause

If we didn't have  competition,

No wins or losses or draws

We may choose to ignore the result at the end,

And look towards the benefits more

But what we'll forever remember are the glories of victories,

Like birds our spirits would soar.
