I Just Want a Normal Life

Start from the beginning

We started putting up our last minute Christmas decor, and got a stocking for Aunt Mack who decided she'd spend Christmas with us now. I made us all some hot chocolate while my mom put in the movie Home Alone, which was always a family tradition to watch  a week before Christmas.

The movie was almost over when I heard someone walk in the door. I jumped so excited to see that it was my Dad and Jared, home for Christmas.

"What you couldn't wait for me to start the movie?" My dad said sarcastically. He had a big smile that showed how excited he was to be home. His expression soon fell when his eyes caught Mack. "What are you doing here?"

Tom, Shep and Jared walked into the room and we were surrounded by complete awkward silence; everyone looking to my dad and Mack to see what would happen next.

"I thought I told you to leave me and my family alone." My dad said.

"Jay, come on she-" My mom started to say.

"Dannee, not now." Dad said firmly. "My office, now." He said to Mack.

She followed him in and he slammed the door. We couldn't help but follow them and listen in to their conversation.

"What the hell are you thinking coming back now? You left us and I told you not to come back." I could hear Mack crying now.

"I just... I just needed my family."

"What did you run out of money and come to beg for more? Well this isn't some prodigal son act Mack. I'm done being your supplier."

"Jensen, for the love of chuck, would you just listen to me!"

"Fine, what kind of trouble are you in now?"

"Trouble? You think that's what this is about? You know you've always been such an asshole! Did you ever think that maybe I just missed you?"

I looked to my mom worried and whispered, "What's going on?"

She held a finger to her lips and listened. "You missed me huh? You know JJ is sixteen now right? You didn't bother to call, or even text? She hardly knows you exist. Josh and I had to avoid the subject of you for years. He's been the greatest Uncle to her, and you've been off doing hell knows what for over a decade."

Neither of them were speaking when my mom opened the door. "Jensen, you need to calm down." I followed her in.

"Danneel, I told you to wait outside. You can't be here right now." I could tell he was furious.

"Actually Jensen, we're all family, and you're about to ruin that for good." My mom was worked up now. "Now, I'm not going to let you ruin the last chance you have at a relationship with your sister, just because you've locked up your pride and can't see that she's here to mend things."

He held his hands in his face trying to process everything. "Why now Mack?"

"My fashion line has taken off. It's world wide now. I realized, I've got everything I've ever dreamed of. Except one thing... my family." He tried to interrupt but she cut him off. "I felt like I was in your stupid show and someone had stabbed me with a freaking stake when I saw how old your little girl had gotten. I missed out on so many years of being the fun aunt. I couldn't miss anymore. Jensen, I'm sorry. I really am. Can you please just forgive me?"

She was crying now and I looked to my dad to see that he had tears as well. "Hey, Dean would die before losing Sammy. You really want to lose me again?"

He just laughed, "You actually watch my show?"

"Heck yeah! I've been a fan girl since day one. Also, I kind of had a crush on Jared for a while, but dodged that bullet."

We could hear Jared on the other side of the door, "Hey!!" We could hear Gen shooshing him.

My dad just laughed, "You know, you've always been a pain." He looked at her and smiled, "But I guess that's why I love you."

She ran over to hug him and started crying uncontrollably. He hugged her back and whispered, "Man I've missed you Mack." Everyone walked in and he wiped his tears. "Alright, alright. Enough chick flick moments. Jay, will you go get my bag out of Jared truck?"

"Yeah sure dad."

I walked out the front door to Jared's truck and opened the passenger seat door. I grabbed my dad's bag and found a note on the seat that said TURN AROUND.

I looked confused at it and was little freaked out because I had seen some of the scary crap that can be behind someone when watching Supernatural every week. But, I disregarded my gut feeling and turned around. Before I could even say anything, Jake was holding me in his arms and his lips met mine within seconds. I had a whirlwind of emotions surrounding me.

His lips left mine, but his arms held me so tight. "What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"I couldn't NOT spend Christmas with my girl." He said smiling.

"I thought you were going to spend it with your Dad?"

"Are you kidding me. That idea lasted a total of twenty minutes. I couldn't even stay on the phone with him for ten minutes to talk about it, so he decided to go to Jamaica and I called your dad as soon as I knew. He and Jared came to get me after their plane landed in Denver."

"You know what, I don't even care. I'm just so glad you're here!" I pulled him down and kissed him, but couldn't help but smile.

"Come on, I know it's Texas, but I'm freezing! Let's get inside!"

He grabbed my dad's bag and held my hand as we walked through the door. My dad was smiling, knowing he just made my Christmas the best one yet. My mom and Gen both screamed and practically attacked Jake at the door.

I helped him get his things into his old room where we not so accidentally fell on the bed and started making out. In between kissed he'd say, "Gosh I missed you so much. These two weeks are going to be the best!"

Tom walked in and immediately covered his eyes. "Holy crap you two get a room..." then he realized, "Oh wait, this is your room. Well, we're all going for a walk and Jensen said to come get you two."

We hurried to grab our coats, and my mom handed us each a hot cocoa. As I walked with Jake, I thought about the here  and now. I was holding his hand and realized how blessed I am. Everyone in my family is safe. My dad and Jared are home. Jake is home. I have a super cool Aunt now that I hardly knew about.

Life sometimes has it's way of working out in unexpected ways. Sometimes I wish for a normal life, but then I realize how amazing my life really is.
