CHAPTER ONE • AWKWARD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
There are those people you just don't date. Your sister's ex. Your best friend's ex. Your ex's best friend. Unless you and your ex are still really close and you're fine seeing him constantly.
Your brother's best friend. Well, not best friend. Fifth-person-in-recent-chats friend. But still, a friend. (Yes, you stalked your brother's phone. It was an April Fool's joke, for goodness' sake! Give it a rest!)
Privately, you blame your brother. He knew you watched YouTube avidly when he started making videos (and forced you to follow him). He knew you were a HUGE fan of danisnotonfire and AmazingPhil when he asked Dan to collab with him, as he had, eventually, been able to stop forcing his followers to gain 5 million.
And he knew you were going to be staying in his flat on the day Dan was coming over. But he asked him over there anyway. Honestly, you couldn't really blame him, however hard you tried; it was the only long weekend in November.
You see, you and your parents lived about 2 hours from London in opposite directions, you at university and your parents living in a tiny house you'd never seen. So, over most breaks, and the occasional long weekend, you were made to stay at your brother's flat while your parents splurged on a hotel, meeting up daily to go to art museums and on picnics. It was mostly torture for you: first off, you didn't need to go to art museums for culture; you got plenty of it at home, re-watching Phil Is Not On Fire for the 116th time (you'd counted). You also didn't really like spending a day with your mother. You two didn't really get along. And your brother, apparently, did not also appreciate it.
Not that you didn't like staying in his flat. Admittedly, you didn't really have a choice. But Marvin wasn't mean. He cleared out his bedroom for you and slept in the living room, on a non-pullout couch. He bought your cereal and willingly gave up his bedroom for hours so you could burrow under the covers with your phone.
He just wasn't really used to having someone else in the flat.
You were thinking of this when he tried to wake you up at 10:30 by kicking his bed, which was a mattress on the floor.
"No," you said, rolling over and pulling the covers tighter around you.
"(Y/n)! Wake—the fuck—up!" The kicking intensified.
"No," you said, shaking your head, and burrowing deeper into the dark red comforter. Then you heard the fateful words.
"Well, (y/n), you better get up, because Dan is coming in half an hour, and we need the bed!" Then he muttered, "That sounded dirty." Louder. "I'm not telling you again, because I have to get ready. WAKE—UP!"
These words only half-pierced through the deep sleep-fog that permeated your brain; you'd gone to sleep at four this morning, so nobody could blame you. You just nodded, muttered, "okay, just go away," and closed your eyes again, delving back into your dream.
You and Dan, your new husband, had just purchased a palace that was completely black. You were trying to fit your furniture through the skinny doorway, which was proving hard as nothing would fit. Dan wouldn't help, saying, "it's too much exercise for me." Finally you managed to convince him to help, but the chair just wouldn't get through. Dan kept saying random things like, "I'll see if my sister's left the room yet," and replying, "okay." Then he started yelling—"I told her half an hour ago and she's still here—(Y/N) WAKE UP!" And you were woken, again, with kicking.
"No, Dan and I were just about to get the chair through the doorway," you mumbled, still in your dream as you closed your eyes tightly; your brother had just opened the curtains.
