"jacob stop!" eve screamed in her sleep, i pulled the covers off of us and couldn't help but notice her hands were over her crotch

"stop it hurts" i began shaking her, i had no idea who jacob was or what he had done to her but this was starting to scare me. she wasn't waking up and her nightmare was intensifying by the second

"fuck! what do i do what do i do"

"demi!" i screamed, i heard footsteps pounding and then my door flung open

"jacob no!" eve screamed, demi ran forward and grabbed my water bottle that was next to evie, pouring a tiny bit on her forehead. evie's eyes opened and she launched herself at demi

"mommy it hurts, mommy!" demi's eyes lit up, but i knew that evie was half asleep and vulnerable she'd be eve and cold again tomorrow morning.

"shh baby i got you, mommy is here" evie snuggled into demi and i could see tears of joy in demi's eyes

"don't leave me mommy" evie clung to demi

"never again baby girl, that's a promise"

"can i take her to my room?" demi asked

"demi, i don't want you getting your hopes up" eve had already fallen asleep on demi's shoulder so it was quite obvious she was only half awake before

"i won't dallas, but she wants to be with me see, she even fell asleep on me"

"okay, but please dems, she's not going to be the same when she wakes up"

"dallas!" i shot up out of my bed and ran to demi's room, where demi was screaming

"what" i said with a hint of annoyance in my tone, but that all went away when i noticed why demi was screaming, eve laid dead still on the ground with not a sign of life in her

"eve? evie?"

"call a fucking ambulance" demi screamed, someone ran behind me

"i'll do it" mom yelled

"demi, calm down"

"she's not breathing dallas! i can't feel her heart" demi began to do cpr on eves lifeless body

the ambulance arrived within minutes and took over the cpr. then eve was quickly taken away into the back of the ambulance, with none of us allowed to ride with her. i knew then that it was really bad, and eve probably wasn't going to make it through. mom, demi and i got into the car and followed the ambulance to the hospital. demi was a mess, rambling about how she put eve on the bed and she woke up, confused, then she sat up and the next moment her eyes rolled back into her head and her body limply fell off of the bed. the hospital staff lead us to a waiting room where demi began pacing the room and freaking out, she then fell to the ground sobbing, she knew too.

evie was gone. our little evie was gone. call it motherly instinct but both demi and i could feel it, we knew that evie was gone.

the doctor walked in thirty minutes later, she wore a solemn expression and had a clipboard in her hand.

"lovato?" we gave a small nod

"i'm hannah, uh who is the mother?" demi raised her hand

"could you please sit down, miss lovato"

"she's dead isn't she" demi asked as she sat down

"unfortunately, despite our best efforts, your daughters heart stopped, and couldn't be restarted. she passed away in the ambulance, i am so very sorry for your loss" demi's screams filled the air around us as she fell onto her knees off of her chair

my whole world just stopped.

i'd already known evie was gone, but now it's been confirmed.

i can't feel anything but pain.

"can we say goodbye?" i asked, the doctor nodded and i helped demi off of the ground.

the sight before my eyes was horrible, my little niece was laying dead under a plastic sheet. they pulled back the sheet revealing her pale/blueish body, triggering more screams from demi

i walked over and placed my hand on her cold hand

"i'm so sorry that you had to live with this horrible disease, i wish we could've gotten you the help you needed sooner. i'll forever remember evelyn acacia, i love you my little star" i kissed her forehead and walked over to demi, wrapping my arms around her

"you can do this dems" demi walked over to eve and did the same thing i did

"i'm so fucking sorry for being a horrible mother to you" she took a sharp breath as tears fell from her eyes

"i failed you, and you deserved better. you deserved to be happy"

"i'll forever hate myself for the way i treated you, for getting caught up with georgie"

"i just wish you knew how much you mean to me, i need you evie, please, please come back"

"i need you, i love you"

"please" demi's head fell into evies chest as she sobbed into her body

"she knew dems, she knew" i said rubbing her back

"i need her"
