Chapter One. 

Alex and his family left fifteen minutes ago, What a great Christmas this has been, I had the greatest present and then I’m snubbed by my own parents! I ignored my parents and went straight up to my room, I don’t see why they are so against me getting engaged, it’s not as if I’m going to get married anytime soon. My mother knocked on my door. She came and sat next to me on my bed.

“I know your not happy with me and your dad’s opinion on this engagement but you can’t blame us Ellie, your our little girl, we just think you should put it off for a while” she said smiling at me.

“I don’t plan on getting married yet mum! We’re just engaged for now, we haven’t made any plans. We came and told you straightaway” I said glancing down at the ring on my finger. 

“Yes but Ellie don’t you want to play the field? Your still young, you haven’t seen half the world yet” my mother said.

“No, my heart belongs to Alex and if you don’t mind I’d like to go to sleep now” I said grabbing my pajamas and headed to the bathroom. When I came back out I overheard my parents downstairs talking.

“No way is she marrying him!” my father shouted, that was it. I stormed downstairs and both of them shut up.

“You can’t tell me to do anything! I’m eighteen dad, I’m an adult I can do anything” I screamed.

“If you can do anything get out of my house!” he shouted in my face and pointed to the door.

“Fine” I said grabbing my boots by the door and heading out the door in my chequered pyjamas. I walked down my street and ended up outside Alex’s house. I knocked lightly on the door in case Olivia was in bed, Alex answered the door.

“Do you mind if I stay here for the night, my dad kicked me out” I said rubbing my arms to keep warm.

“Geez Ell, come in” he said putting his arm around me, I went and sat on the couch while he got me a blanket.

“Thanks” I said as he draped the blanket over me. We snuggled up on the couch intertwined with each other. We didn’t bother on going to bed we just fell asleep on the couch.

In the morning Olivia jumping on us awaked us.

“When did you get here?” Olivia said confused.

“After you went to bed,” I said making room for her to sit in-between Alex and I. Madison then popped her head out from the kitchen and offered us breakfast, I said no because the smell was turning me sick.

“Can I go to the loo?” I asked Madison, she nodded and I briskly walked up the stairs. When I got to the bathroom I threw up violently, I really didn’t know what was wrong with me. I washed my mouth out with water from the sink and made my way back downstairs, it was then I realized I had no clothes to wear.

“Fancy coming back to my house, see if my parents will take me back?” I asked Alex.

“Uh, I don’t think me going with you is going to help Ell” he said raising his eyebrows.

“True, okay well if they don’t let me in, I’ll be back” I said walking out the front door still in my pajamas. Luckily I knew no one walking in the streets. I got to my house and took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. My mother answered.

“Aw where did you go?” my mother said concerned.

“To Alex’s obviously” I said pausing before I said “Where’s dad?”

“He’s in work, your free to come in” she said letting me in the house.

“Was he serious, do I have to move out?” I said shocked.

“No honey, I’m sure he’ll get over it, I think it was just shock” she said rubbing my arm trying to comfort me. I shrugged her off and went up to my room to get changed; once I was refreshed I decided to go to Janey’s instead of going back to Alex’s.

I got to her house and knocked on the door, her mother answered.

“Hello Ellie, Janey’s in her room” she said letting me pass, I walked straight to her room. I walked into her room and she was laying on the bed on her laptop with her earphones in.

“Oi!” I said nudging her on the bed, she took her earphones out and hugged me.

“I have some news!” I told her before showing her the diamond on my finger, he face lit with excitement.

“No way” she said fondling my finger. “I knew you guys were serious but I didn’t think it was this serious!” she said putting my hand in my face to show me the ring.

“I’m so excited Jane, I can’t believe it’s happening, the only downside is that parents are completely against it but they can’t stop me I’m eighteen for god’s sake!”

“You don’t plan on getting married yet though?” she said.

“No I don’t think so”

“Then lie, just say you think that they’re right and you’ve called the engagement off but keep it to Alex and yourself that it is, you just won’t wear the ring or wear it on the other hand until your parents are okay with it” she said smiling, Janey is so cunning but looks so innocent.

“That’s a genius idea!” I said.

“Thank you” she said smugly.

“Ugh what’s that smell?” I said as a revolting stink travelled into the room.

“I know my mother’s cooking is bad but no need to be so rude” Janey said shocked.

“Sorry but…” I said getting up and running to the bathroom. Once again I violently threw up. Janey came running behind me.

“What’s wrong with you” she said concerned.

“I don’t know, I’ve been sick like three times in two days, every time I smell food or something it turns me sick” I said holding on to the side of the toilet.

“You’re not pregnant are you?” she said forming her mouth into an ‘o’ shape.

“No of course not” I said getting up and trying to work out in my head when my last period was. I hadn’t had a period this month, oh shit!

“We’re going to the pharmacy and you’re going to pee on a stick!” she said grabbing me by the arm but I didn’t realise where she had taken me until I was standing in the cue in the pharmacy. I was still in shock.

“You don’t think…” I trailed off; I didn’t want to say the word.

“You won’t know until you try,” she said picking up a clear blue pregnancy test and taking it to the counter. She paid for it and we walked back to her house. She sat me on the toilet and handed me the box.

“Now pee,” she said before leaving the room, leaving me with my future in my hands. It took me a while but I finally managed to pee on the stick, now to wait for the result.
