Dan's alarm sounded but it didn't wake him. He was never asleep in the first place. It was a Monday morning, the first day back at school after the summer holidays, and Dan had accidentally spent all night on the internet. Not like that was unusual for him, night blogging until the early hours of the morning and getting through a full day with no sleep was something that came naturally to Dan. After all, his whole life was on the internet. The outernet meant nothing to him, there was nothing for him there anyway.

Rubbing his eyes, Dan shut his laptop and sighed knowing that he could no longer behind his online persona. After reaching for his phone to make one final tweet, Dan got out of bed and began to ready himself for his first day back at the hell he knew as school.

Dan's uniform was horrendous to say the least. White shirt, red tie and a blazer that, no matter how hard he tried to, he just didn't suit it. He felt less like a secondary school pupil and more like a child playing dress up. In an attempt to dress it down a bit, he slung on his favourite grey hoodie underneath the blazer and he shoved in his headphones. The headphones were crucial to his survival and the hoodie was just comfy.

After doing a final fringe check in the mirror Dan grabbed a piece of toast and left for school. As Dan left his house and started to walk to his bus stop, he prayed to every deity he knew that it wouldn't rain. Nothing was worse than standing in the already cold British weather and to have it start pouring. But, because God clearly hated him, when Dan was only a couple feet from his bus stop, the rain started and he was without a coat. Great, thought Dan as he pulled up his hood. It was his first day back and he was going to go looking like he'd been swimming. Dan felt stupid because he didn't bring a coat. He should've predicted that the weather would do this.

The bus stop was pretty empty, and the broken tin shed they called a bus shelter was beyond useless. But, in the midst of the tired teens and annoying year seven's, one boy stood out. He had beautiful black hair, pale skin and eyes that Dan couldn't begin to describe. They were blue, green and gold, but above all beautiful. He wore a smile that would melt anyone's heart, he looked so innocent. Dan had never seen the boy before, he wondered if he was new.

The boy noticed Dan staring at him and his smile broadened as he sent him an enthusiastic wave. Great now I'm gonna have to socialise, thought Dan as the boy started to make his way over.

"Hey, you look really cold," greeted the boy with a sympathetic look, Dan in fact was very cold and water was dripping from his now curly fringe, "you wanna share my umbrella?" he asked. Dan nodded, grateful for the boy's offer. "I'm Phil," said the raven haired boy.

"Dan," he replied not sure how to carry on the conversation. Thankfully, Phil was a bit more of a social butterfly.

"I'm new here, so I'm sorry for kinda jumping in your face. I noticed you looking at me and I thought 'why not make a friend?'" said Phil and Dan blushed lightly. He hoped he could pass the pinkness of his cheeks as him just being cold.

"It's fine, I don't really have any friends so..." Dan trailed off as he noticed the bus pull up.

Phil looked at Dan and flashed him a friendly smile, "Well, consider me your new best friend Dan!" announced Phil as he grabbed Dan's hand and pulled him to the bus. Maybe school wouldn't be that bad...
