NEW STUDENT

I woke up using my biological alarm clock.

Breakfast was awkward at first, until I decided to start a topic.

"Mom, Dad, uhhh... The principal told me that there's a new student."

Mom raised her brow. "And?" she urged me to continue.

I cleared my throat and continued. "He asked me to tutor him because he missed some of the lessons."

Dad looked at me. "He?"

I nodded and continued eating.

"Damon, stop scowling!" mom scolded dad.

He ignored her and told me. "Remember Delilah, no boyfriends."

"Yes dad. I'll just tutor him for a month and I'll leave him doing his own business." I answered.

"Good."

We finished our breakfast. Dad drove me to school and mom to work then went to his. We always use the same car in the morning.

I reached the school.

"Hi Delilah!" Julie grinned at me.

I smiled and waved at her as she ran towards me.

"Delilah, Mr. Armando wants you in his office."

I nodded. "Ok. See you at reccess."

As I reached his office, I knocked.

Mr. Armando cleared his throat. "Come in." he said.

I opened the door and went inside. I smiled at Mrs. Punzalan, his secretary and went towards him.

He reminded me that I will meet the new student today so I can start tutoring him as soon as possible.

As we were talking, we heard a knock.

"Come in." Mr. Armando said.

The door opened I saw a boy.

'So he's the new student.'

I plastered a fake smile as he walk towards Mr. Armando.

"Good morning, Mr. Anderson, I'm Mr. Armando. Welcome to Peterson High." Mr. Armando greeted.

'Mr. Anderson' gave a nod and Mrs. Punzalan gave him his schedule and he also gave her a nod.

'Not even a thank you?' I thought, but without taking of the smile in my face.

I looked at him from head to toe.

Glasses, white and ironed polo shirt, slacks, white socks, leather shoes. He's decent.

He noticed me looking at him and we had a staring contest for maybe ten seconds.

Mr. Armando cleared his throat and started introducing us to each other.

I smiled out of politeness and offered my hand. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Anderson."

He shook my hand, his face, still blank. "You too."

'Is he human? He doesn't even smile!'

Oh well, it's a relief he can talk. I don't know how to communicate with a mute.

Mr. Armando let us out of his office, saying we're already late for class.

Me and Mr. Anderson walked in hallway, and that's where I decided to leave him.

"Meet me tomorrow at the library, dismissal time for your first tutoring class." I said and left.

As expected, I was late for my first class--Mathematics.
