Chapter 6

It felt like I had only slept for five minutes when my alarm clock went off in the morning.  I groaned and reached over to hit the snooze button.  My shoulders felt like they had been weighted down when I got in the shower.  I made the water as cold as I could, trying to wake myself up.  After, when I looked in mirror, I saw dark circles under my eyes.  Remy came in when I started putting my makeup on.

“Man, you look like crap,” she said.  “What’s wrong?”

“Thanks.  I really don’t want to talk about what’s wrong right now because I don’t want to think about it anymore.  That’s why I look like this.  I’ve been up all night,” I said.

“Okay, well, I think your evil little house guest is up.  I heard the shower on about twenty minutes ago,” Remy said.  “I’m going to go ahead and head out.  I’m going to take your car, so you can take the Escalade.”

“Why are you taking my car?  Where’s yours?”

“Dad’s taking it to the mechanic today.  I don’t know why.  But I need a car, so I’m going to take yours.”

“Why don’t you take the Escalade?” I asked.

“Because that thing is way too big.  Plus, I like driving cars better.  They’re easier,” she said.

I sighed.  “The keys are in my bag.  But can you please put the others on the table in the kitchen so I don’t have to search for them?” I asked.

“Sure.  See you at school,” she said, leaving the room.

After I finished my makeup and hair, I went to my closet to find something to wear.  I found some white capris and put them on, and then tried to find a shirt that would look good with it.  After searching for a minute or two, I settled for a light yellow blouse since it was the only thing I thought was cute at the moment.

“Who in their right mind would want a closet this big?”

I didn’t hear Rebecca come in.  When I turned toward her, I stopped.

“You look better,” I said.  It was true.  The circles under her eyes were almost completely gone.  She looked really well rested.

“I haven’t slept that good in months.  Plus, that bed is so comfortable.  I didn’t wake up once.  Well, except for… you know.”  She paused.  “I’m sorry about telling you last night.  I should have waited until this morning.  I bet you didn’t sleep.”

“No, no, I’m glad you told me, even though it was that.  And, yeah, I didn’t get much sleep, but today I’m thanking the person who ever thought of making concealer, because I sure did put on a lot.”

“Again,” Rebecca said.  “Sorry.”

“It’s not your fault.  Now, what do you want to wear?  You’re the same size as me and Remy, so pick anything.  Wait.  Let’s do your hair first, and then we can pick clothes.  That would probably be easier,” I said, pulling her into my bathroom and setting her down in the chair.  “I’ll do your makeup, too.”

“Hair?  Makeup?  Do you really think that’s necessary?” Rebecca asked with a worried expression on her face.

“Of course, it is.  When I’m finished with you, you’ll look fantastic.  Why do you think Remy’s hair always looks so good?  It’s not like she does it herself all the time.  Most of the time I do it,” I said, pulling out the drawer that was filled with makeup in every shade and every color.

I played with a few different colors of eyeshadows, trying to find one that went good with her eye color, which was a shocking dark green.  I went with dark purple eyeshadow and charcoal eyeliner, trying to make them have a smoky effect.  I had to say, it was probably my best work I’d ever done.
