Chapter 27 : Canon Hearts

After dad left with the twins the next day, I decided to waste my time with Lars, though I made sure he was alone at first. I wasn’t in a condition to have awkward encounters with my band mates. It was likely than in matters of days we would be called ‘Former Band mates’, not that I was counting.

I had debated on going to Lana’s shop but I had become a great coward over the past few days. I couldn’t even bring myself to try calling Rhodes again – I was afraid he might completely break things from me. Dad had advised me to stop sulking and talk to them and I just asked him to mind his own business – politely though.

‘’Did you bring me anything?’’ Lars asked hopefully when I opened the door of his room. Mrs. Hales sat beside him and it looked like she was scolding him.

‘’Good Morning Mrs. Hales,’’ I greeted her politely and smiled.

‘’Violet! It’s good to see you. Come here, have a seat.’’ She replied standing up and ushering me in.

‘’Oh no maa’m I-‘’

‘’Don’t worry dear, I am just leaving. I have worked to get to.’’ She then turned to Lars who was scowling at her when she wasn’t looking. ‘’You boy, if I hear one more complain from doctors, I am going to rent you a room here and dump you until you turn eighteen.’’ She threatened him in a low almost scary voice and even though it was a funny threat, she had a very severe and serious look on her face. Lars looked absolutely mortified like this kind of things had happened in past.

‘’Okay whatever’’ he grumbled looking away from her,

‘’Well then Violet, hope to see you rock the stage in finales.’’ She patted my shoulder and left the room. I dropped a brown bag of French fries and beef burger in last lap and he grinned at me. I on the other hand didn’t grin.

‘’Why didn’t you tell her about the problem?’’ Obviously if she wished me good luck about the ‘finale’ that meant she didn’t know about my screwing up. Also I was surprised when she talked to me kindly.

‘’Er, I didn’t need to.’’

‘’Lars what if she finds out later and start hating me?’’ I demanded taking the seat.

‘’She won’t care Violet, she’ll just ask dad to take me on one of his tours. Don’t worry about it.’’ I leaned back on the chair and sighed, feeling exhausted from my own thoughts. See, I was becoming an extremely negative person.

‘’Okay I guess’’ I mumbled clenching and un-clenching my fists.

‘’Thanks for the meal Violet, you don’t know how foul is the food they feed me.’’ Lars complained as he savored the fries,

‘’No probs, it’s not like a paid for it.’’ I replied with a grin, ‘’So, what did you do that made your mom mad?’’

‘’Nothing too serious, I just asked them to let me play my guitar. It’s so boring here you know. The docs said no, and I started singing at top of my lungs. They would have thrown me out if it weren’t for dad’s reputation.’’ I held sympathy for him. It must suck to be here with nothing to do. I couldn’t imagine myself in his position.

‘’Why don’t you read some books instead of singing uh?’’

Lars popped the last of fries in his mouth and made a very ugly face, ‘’Books? Really Violet…stop talking like Indigo.’’ He grumbled. Indigo, where did she come from?

‘’Lars do you have a crush on her or something?’’ He coughed like he was almost disgusted by the idea,

‘’Please don’t make such jokes Violet. I don’t go after girls once we are done-‘’
