Chapter 24 : Death March

‘’You were drunk.’’ It wasn’t a question, it was a statement. I couldn’t even deny it; the hung over was pretty obvious. Thus the major reason I hadn’t shown my face to dad yet.

‘’Look, I can explain that.’’ Rhodes sat on the side of my bed making a thump sound, he scowled at me looking pissed off – which was the most unusual thing for him. I wasn’t appalled, I had it coming after all and it was my fault to act so irresponsible.

‘’What exactly are you going to explain Quinn? You were drunk. You took booze. Booze Quinn, BOOZE.’’ He said shaking my shoulders like it was much worse. Okay, it actually was worse. I had never gotten drunk my whole life; it was a new thing for me. And truth to be told it sucked. My head was pounding like someone was hitting it with a very hard hammer. I had thrown up three times this past hour and my mouth wash was almost finished.

I was never going near any bars again. Like ever…not that Rhodes would let me after this.

‘’I told you I’m sorry.’’

‘’It’s not about sorry. You can’t reverse it all by saying that. I thought you knew better!’’ Thankfully only he knew that, if dad found out, I would have ended up dead.

‘’I won’t do it again.’’ I told him trying to sound calm,

‘’You did it for that leech!’’ I cringed from his voice, which was too loud and high pitched, perhaps the loudest amplitude he could manage.

‘’Jeez you sound like a cheerleader.’’

‘’Don’t change the topic Quinn, that guy asked you to drink and you being the knucklehead you are just gave in? How ridiculous are you!?’’

‘’First of all stop shouting, secondly he didn’t force me, it was my choice.’’ He shook his head and gave me a very severe look. I didn’t really remember what happened, I just knew that Oliver and I were talking and he randomly started singing loudly. Everything that happened after that was faded blur, oddly enough there was Melissa somewhere as well.

I didn’t know how I ended up home either but when I woke up I was lying on the floor of my bedroom in the clothes I wore last night. Rhodes showed up just an hour ago because I was late for practice.

‘’If your dad finds out-‘’

‘’Don’t even go there,’’ he told him sternly, ‘’if you tell him, I’ll murder you with my own two hands. And it’ll be painful.’’

Rhodes didn’t seem like he cared about that, ‘’Do you honestly think you can threaten me after what you did.’’

‘’I’m not arguing that with you again.’’

‘’Did you guys talked about the competition?’’ Rhodes asked me after a while, I thought about it. I didn’t quite remember most of it but I was sure me and Oliver didn’t discuss that thing at all.
