Chapter 20 : Head over Heels
The next round was easier than the previous ones and it was surprising. We just had to prepare a cover song from the 90’s rock culture and play it in front of the judges. And the time we received was longer as well. We had decided to take a break for two days before getting back on track. The competition was ending soon, after this round the marks were going to be summed up and the top bands were going to fight in the finale determining the winner. We had worked quite hard previously and it was obvious we needed some time off.
Last night Lars had taken us to a club – Stella obviously refused with a horrified face and I had to lie to dad again – and it didn’t end quite well. Lars had used his father’s name to let us all in and I had a feeling it was an everyday thing for him to do. I had lost sight of everyone the moment I stepped in. Thankfully I was able to avoid any drinking since drinking and I didn’t get along nicely. Last time it happened was when I was barely fourteen and accidentally drank Mr. Sullivan’s vodka.
Today I had spent most morning in Rhodes room, watching reruns of Dexter and stuffing my mouth with homemade popcorns. After tiring our eyes out we both dropped on his bed, opposite to each other and staring aimlessly at the ceiling. We had been lying for quite some while now in silence and I assumed he was asleep by now but then he spoke interrupting my thoughts.
‘’Quinn’’
‘’What?’’
‘’You are not listening to me.’’ Of course I wasn’t listening to me; my thoughts were too tangled in Oliver to listen him. I guess this happened when you fall in love, you can’t stop thinking about that person.
I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about him either, the way he looked at me, the way he kissed me, touched me, how he changed himself and dropped that distant attitude. Everything kept running in my mind wildly, removing knots from my heart and making it flutter.
‘’Quinn’’
‘’What is it?’’
‘’There’s a bowl of finely chopped apples in the refrigerator downstairs.’’
I rolled my eyes, ‘’congratulations on that’’
‘’Bring them up, I am hungry.’’ I sat up on my elbows and gave him an amused look,
‘’You have been doing nothing but eating this past hour, are you sure your mind is perfectly alright, it’s scary you know.’’
‘’I’m a growing boy, I need food.’’
‘’You seem like you need a little more than normal.’’
‘’I know you’re thinking about that guy Oliver Parker.’’ I got up and sat crossed leg on the bed, giving him a grin,
‘’You know me too well.’’
Rhodes frowned and sat up as well, ‘’I don’t like this sudden change of attitude in him. Just because you acted all nice changed him? Are you sure you’re not being too naïve?’’
