♕ Chapter Fourteen ♕ - This Is Torment.

Start from the beginning

Now it was my turn to furrow my eyebrows, "A-are you sure? He hasn't been in school the whole week. The teachers send me to give him-"

"He isn't home!" He shouts before shutting the door in my face.

I flinched at his actions and just keep my eyes glued on the door, shocked. He wasn't home? I walked all this way for nothing?

You didn't walk here for nothing. I mean, sure, he wasn't home but at least you tried, right? Now you go home and you tell the teachers next week that he wasn't home and done. They'll let you off the hook.

I bite my lower lip, actually thinking about what my conscious was saying.

"No, Riley. You have to give him the homework." And also I can't tell the teacher he is sick but not at home. He would get in trouble.

And you cared about that since?

He would get in trouble and he does it so good himself, I don't want to help him.

Yeah, right.

It's true-I shake my head when I realise that I was talking to myself. Instead I take up my phone and dial his number. If he isn't home and he is out he will answer his phone.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

Ring. Ring. Ri-

"Hello?"

I let out a sigh of relief when I hear his voice.

"Oh, thank god you answered!" I cry out.

"R...riley?" He sounds confused. "What's wrong? You almost sound...happy to hear me."

I roll my eyes. "I am. Where are you?"

"Uhm.." He stops and I hear him coughing before answering again. "Home. Why?"

Home?

"Are you sure, Lucas?" I ask, eyebrows furrowed.

He lets out a chuckle. "What kind of question is that even, Matthews?"

"Friar, I'm serious. Where are you?"

"Matthews, I am at home." He says it slowly as if I was too slow on caching up.

I roll my eyes and start pacing back and forth on his garden. "I am outside your house and your dad just told me you weren't home."

"You're what?!"

I let out a groan. "I can't believe you! Why lie? Huh?! And I can't understand why I'm still out here. I should be heading back home."

"No, no, uhm...wait there, I'll come down and open the door." He says hurriedly and before I could say a thing, he hangs up.

I take the phone away from my ear and just look at it, blinking.

"Jerk!" I groan and throw my head back.

Why would his dad lie? I mean, I'm not God knows what. I don't get it...

I hear the door opening and I turn around to find Lucas standing by the door.

"You coming or what?"

I give him a glare and stomp up to him and before passing him I put my finger up and point it at him.

"You owe me some good explanation."

His eyes went wide and we walk inside his house. It wasn't that big, pretty small but cozy. The walls looked pretty old and so did the furniture. My eyes run around the place and I feel a hand on my back, leading me towards the stairs. I look back at Lucas to tell him to keep personal space but he puts his finger to his mouth, shushing me up.
