Here are some fun writing exercises to help jog ideas.
-Requires 3+ writers. Write a story, where you take turns writing. One person writes 1-3 sentences, then the next person does the same (going off of the first bit), and the game continues. You'll end up with fun story ;) These work well in comment sections.
-In an Excel document, type names in one column, ages in another, a dream (aspiration), and a career. Shuffle them, pick one of the lines, and write a short story with that as your main character. I once got a guy named Pat who wanted to own an island but worked as the Easter bunny at the mall.
-Play a video game without a heavy plot and use it as a writing prompt. Insert a plot into the guidelines of the game world. Sims is perfect.
-Come up with a story based off of a children's show.
-Write a story based off of a childhood memory/game you made up as a kid.
