I was only 14. I was 14 years old when my mother died, and I couldn't do anything to save her. I should've done something to help her. My dad was right to blame me.
I can hear dad and Monica yelling at each other. I sigh and finish packing do I can get out of here, forever.
I check my back pocket to make sure the letter is still there and grab my bag, leaving my childhood room and prison, forever.
I shove passed my dad and go stand next to Monica.
"You ready to go?" She smiles and nods.
"Yup, let's go. Your new life awaits you." We walk towards the door, about to leave, when my dad speaks up.
"How am I supposed to eat? I don't have any money." If he thinks he can guilt me into staying, he's going to be very disappointed. I sigh loudly and turn around.
"Get a job. Sober up. Then you'll have some money." He should know this. I don't give him the chance to respond. I just turn and walk out, Monica following me. When we are away from the house, I turn to Monica, smiling.
"I can't believe that actually happened. I finally stood up to him. Thank you! Are you sure you're ok with me staying with you?" I don't want to be an inconvenience for her.
"Yeah, it's totally fine. And you'll be going to the castle soon enough." She winks and I laugh.
"Sure." I probably won't be going.
"Come on, let's get home and fill out the form. We can get there early to turn it in so we don't have to wait in line forever." I nod in agreement and we walk silently the rest of the way.
My shoulders feel lighter, like a weight has been lifted off of me. I never have to go back to that place again. I smile, happy for the first time since I watched my mother die.
When we get home, we go inside and fill out the form. It's easy enough.

"Well, that was easy. I thought it would be this super hard test thing." I laugh, it wasn't like that at all.
I look at the clock and sigh. I have to get ready for work. I look at Monica.
"I've got to get ready for work. My shift usually ends at 6:00p.m. We can turn I the form when I'm off." I get up and start walking to my room with my bag.
"Ok, have fun at work!" I smile and yell at her that I will.
I go to my room and get ready. I work as a waitress at the cute diner in town, Emmy's. My work outfit is a fitted white collar top tucked into a black skirt that goes to the middle of my thighs. It was actually a pretty cute outfit. I pull my hair into a high ponytail and out on my black converse.

I grab my messenger bag, filled with my lunch, and a change of clothes, and leave my room

I grab my messenger bag, filled with my lunch, and a change of clothes, and leave my room.
"Bye, Monica! See you after my shift! Love you!" I shout as I walk down the stairs and out the door. The diner isn't very far from here, about a ten minute walk.
