Didn't See That Coming

(Dannel's POV)
Jensen shut the door behind him, and I turned to Matt. "So what do you have to say, because I'd kind of like to get back to my daughter."
"Yeah, she's pretty special. She looks just like you."
We both stood there awkwardly until he finally said, "Danneel, I love you. I always will. And I'm sorry for everything."
I didn't know what to say, "Matt, I'm sorry. But I have a family. A husband who I love more than life itself. A daughter who I thought I almost lost forever. And I'm not willing to give that up, I'm sorry."
He turned away in embarrassment. "I know. I don't know what I was thinking."
I turned him to face me, "I'm sorry you lost your wife, but you have to beautiful daughters from what I saw, and my advice would be to do everything you can to support them. Love them like they deserve."
He turned to me and smiled. "Thank you, I will."
I hugged him and kissed his cheek, "you're a great guy Matt. And you don't have to live the rest of your life alone. There is someone out there for you, I know it."
I turned away from him and started walking out the door. I shut it behind me knowing that should be our last time seeing each other. The only thing I wanted now was my little girl.
I found her with my two boys in the foyer of the house with Matt's two daughters, Jared and Liam already in the car waiting with Harold. I pulled JJ into me, and hugged her like I had never before.
None of us said a word, and hurried to the car to leave. We knew we'd be exhausted and Gen would have probably planned a giant celebration for her homecoming, and we needed our rest.
We arrived at the airport after almost two and a half hours of driving, and boarded our jet as fast as we could. Jensen and I decided to get some sleep and payed together on the sofa. JJ and Jake, wrapped in each other's arms laid in a recliner looking out the window whispering with one another. We all rested knowing we'd soon be home and life would be normal again.

(JJ's POV)
We were finally home around six o'clock and after the drive from the airport it was almost seven. We walked in the door and not a second longer, I was bombarded by hugs from Tom, Halle, Shep, and Gen. I didn't blame them for their excitement, and I was just as excited to see them.
We walked into the kitchen where eight different pizzas were waiting for us. Some of my friends from school were there, and a few of Jake and Tom's friends from the football team were there as well.
We all eight pizza and avoided talking about what had happened. I noticed as the night went on that Jake was a little quiet and I pulled him aside into my dad's office to figure out what was going on. He held me close to him and wouldn't let me go.
"JJ, I can't express to you how broken I felt. I felt useless. Like there was nothing I could do to save you."
I wiped a tear from his cheek and slowly pulled his lips to mine, standing on my tippy toes and still having to pull him down to meet me. I felt his smile as his lips collided with mine. He then smiled more and looked at me with his gorgeous blue eyes, "can we get out of here for a few hours? I need to talk to you."
I looked to everyone in the kitchen and noticed my dad was looking at us through the open doorway. He nodded and motion for the front door. He must have known what we were thinking. I just smiled and laced my digets in with his and dragged him out the front door. He hurried to grab his keys on the way out.
I hopped in his truck and before he started the engine I pulled him in to me again, this time for a more passionate kiss. Using the fact that we were alone I pulled him into me crashing my lips into his and allowing my tongue to meet his. I pulled him by his shoulders in to me and he didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around me as well. I slowly let go and he smiled a cheesy smile, "wow, what was that for?"
"I just missed you and have been thinking about doing that for weeks."
He started his car and we started to drive out of town. Before long he was turning on to a back road and we drove down the dirt road for almost an hour laughing together and talking as if we hadn't been apart at all. I loved every minute with him. He finally pulled off the road and parked in this field near the stream that was running not far from the road.
His car turned off but I heard our song start to play on the speaker he had brought. I heard Brad Paisley start to sing, "she's a yellow pair of running shoes, a hokey pair of jeans. She looks great in cheap sunglasses, she looks great in anything..."
I turned to him and smiled. "Babe, what is this?"
He just smiled and held out his hand, "dance with me?"
I didn't hesitate and grabbed his hand. His left arm pulled me into him, as his right hand softly laced with mine. We danced together as the song played and I couldn't help but notice the gorgeous sunset with the pink skies and how it made the river just glow. We could hear crickets humming in the night, and the wind was blowing through the fields. But the only thing we could focus on was each other.
The song ended, and he quickly went to turn the speaker off and hurried back to me.
He had a nervous look on his face when he approached me and I saw him suddenly bend down on one knee and held my hands in his.
I couldn't help but cry even after all the tears I had cried today. I was still in utter shock, he was in front of me on one knee.
I'm sure he could sense my shock, and tried to calm me down. "Don't freak out JJ, I'm not proposing." I let out a short laugh wiping my tears and exhaled a sigh of relief. "I just want to show you how much I love you." He pulled from his pocked a small box with a ring inside.

I just cried looking at the gorgeous ring in front of me

I just cried looking at the gorgeous ring in front of me. He grabbed my hand, and slid the ring on my finger. "It made me sick knowing you were somewhere in the world with another man where I couldn't protect you, and have my arms around you knowing you were safe. I realized I don't ever want to spend a day of my life without you. I want to be yours forever."
I sobbed and fell to my knees in front of him kissing him, once again. "You're so incredible, you know that? I don't know what I'd ever do without you."
He pulled me into him and hugged me so tight. He made me laughed when he said, "I sure was glad to have you in my arms, but it took everything I had not to take Jared's gun and end that sick bastard."
I busted out laughing wiping back sobs. "You're perfect!" I said and he kissed my forehead.
"We better get back before your parents start to worry again." He said, although I could tell he had no desire to.
"Yeah you're right."
He helped me back into his truck, opening the door for me, and we made the drive back to our home. Home. I was so happy to finally be home.
