He leaned in closer. How could I resist? He kept getting closer to the point where I could feel his breath on my lips. I slowly closed my eyes waiting for his kiss. I could only imagine what his lips felt like on mine. Only then had I realized how much I wanted this. I also realized how wrong I was to do it.
“No..." I whispered. I opened my eyes and Jack did too. He pulled back a little, but still close.
"Just one kiss won't hurt." He whispered back.
"It could." I said quietly and quickly.
"Kisses are overrated." he whispered getting closer, "I've never heard of someone falling in love over one little kiss." He kept leaning in until his soft lips pressed against mine. The feeling of it was more than I could have ever expected. I melted under his lips and twisted mine with his. I tangled my hands into his hair as his arms found the perfect fit around my waist. Our lips moved in sync and slightly parted. I thought I heard a slight noise but decided to disregard it, I had bigger things on my mind. “ahem.” A cough echoed through the room. It took a lot from me to push Jack off of me. Jack got off and we both looked towards the door, breathless. My mother stood there, arms crossed, furrowed brow. “Mom…” I said shocked.
"Jack, can you come with me for a second, please?” she said, but I couldn't read her expression. She left the room, and wait for Jack in the hallway. I had that feeling that you get when you know you’re in trouble and you’re just waiting to get pinned for it, mixed with millions of butterflies and fireworks in my stomach. It felt like I was about to throw up, but in a good way.
"I'm sorry” I said to Jack.
"Hah, it was worth it.” he said with a wink and walked towards the door. He stopped for a second and turned only his head and smiled.
He left me sitting there, biting my lip to try to keep myself from smiling like an idiot, which didn't work. I knew I was going to regret doing that, but it was just so perfect. The way his lips tasted, like fresh picked strawberries. They felt completely natural on mine, like it was meant to be. Nothing could beat that, nothing.

I walked out of the room, leaving Olive alone on her bed. Wow, just wow. I’ve had my first kiss before, but it was nothing like that. She left me absolutely breathless. She's going to have me begging for more, but I know that's all I'm getting. Something about the way she resists me makes me want her more, and when I get her, it’s so rare, I love it.
I’ve never had a kiss that felt as natural as that. I know she felt it too, though. You know how they talk about sparks? Well, actually, it was like a warm feeling washed over me. Like I was finally somewhere where I belonged and never wanted to leave. I felt relaxed, yet full of adrenaline. It's been years since I've been this happy. That's why I wanted to take a vacation. I guess I found my relaxation. I was shaken out of my fantasy of reliving that kiss from Olive's mom's voice.
"Jack? Are you listening?" her mother said, surprisingly without any anger.
"Oh, sorry Mrs. Hussgrove. What were you saying?" I replied running my hand through my hair since it was kind of messed up from Olive, but I didn't mind.
Lindsey sighed “Thank you."
"What?" I said obviously surprised.
"Thank you for making Olive so happy. She hasn't been this happy for awhile." she said thankfully.
“Oh, well. She makes me happy too." I said smiling, "But can I ask you something?"
"Yeah, sure. Go ahead." she said sweetly.
"Well, do you know why Olive doesn't want me to like her? I mean everytime I show her that I care about her, she’s all for it, then in a matter of seconds she’s crying and locking herself in bathrooms. I know you and her have a really strong relationship so I was wondering if you knew what’s going on. I just keep feeling like I’m doing something wrong. I feel like it’s my fault that she’s so upset. Am I doing something wrong?" I asked hoping that she'd know.
"It’s not that easy, Jack." she said hesitantly. “There is more that you don’t know, and that’s Olive’s choice to tell you, not mine, I’m sorry. But I can tell you it’s not your fault.”
“Ok, thankyou. I just want to make her happy.”
"And you do! Jack, sweetie. Don't take it personally. I can tell that she really likes you, but she's scared. She'll tell you why when she's ready. Trust me.” she said sincerely.
"Thank you, Mrs. Hussgrove.” I said before asking, "May I bring some food up to Olive? I don't think she has eaten all day."
"Sure. I'll get you some too." she said before walking towards the kitchen.
"Thanks.” I said before following her into the kitchen.
I helped prepare some chicken soup with Olive's mom. She really remnded me of my own mother. The way she talked was exactly the same, and also the fact that she was a single mother, struggling to understand her teenage child. Something else, it was her smile. Every time she smiled, it made me remember home.
She handed me a tray with two bowls of steaming soup. I took it up the stairs slowly, trying not to spill any of it. I walked into Olive’s room and set the tray down in between me and her on the bed. I looked up and Olive was smiling at me. She was the most beautiful thing I’d seen in my life. I wanted her to know how special she was to me. She had wrapped a quilt around her shoulders and was shivering slightly.
"You cold?" I ask worried.
"Just a little." she replied hugging the blanket closer to her.
"Well I brought you some hot, homemade soup to warm you up."
"Thank you.” she replied with a half smile.
~Olive~
Jack came into the room with a tray of steaming soup. Great. I mean I appreciate the thought but I wasn’t hungry at all. I haven’t been hungry for a while. My mom knew that I like Jack so I assumed this was just another one of her attempts at trying to get me to eat something. She had won this time.
I slowly stuffed small spoonful’s of the soup into my mouth and talked to Jack in between bites. He told me what my mom said, but I could tell he was leaving out some details. After a while, my mom walked calmly through the door with her hand closed into a fist.
"Hi mom." I said unsurely. She smiled and put her closed fist over in front of me. I reached out my hand and she dropped my pills and vitamins into my open palm. She placed a col glass of water on my nightstand and left without a word. This was routine in my house, she gave me the pills, I took the pills, I stay alive. Jack looked at me curiously as I gulped down the big fat pills one by one.
"Why do you have to take so many pills?" I turned away from his gaze and looked down at my glass of water.
“It’s a long story.”
I felt Jack rest his hand on mine, “I’ve got about two months.”
