Chapter 10

Kai POV

After I had made food for Chloe and I, we decided to just go out for a while. Reveling in the fact that we were now mates, every minute we could spend together was spent that way. It was amazing. Getting to stare at that beautiful face.

"Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?" I asked giving her a cheeky grin.

"Yeah about," she looked at the time on her phone, "seven times in the past hour." She chuckled at me. I posted faking being sad. "Awh is the little puppy sad?" This just caused me to frown and growl slightly. I didn't appreciate being insulted, even by my mate. Chloe seemed to get this and put her head down.

I checked the time, it was late afternoon at this stage. "Well should head back, David has told me there is something I have to take care of back at the pack." Chloe just nodded at me. Was she really still in a mood over the fact she called me a puppy, and I got annoyed? I sighed and tilted her face towards me. "I'm sorry I snapped at you Clo, I just think I'm a little bit better than a puppy?" I got a small smile followed by a gentle kiss. "Yes, you're a lot better than a puppy, Kai, I won't say that again."

Taking her hand we headed back towards the car and made our way home.

Chloe was flicking through the channels on the radio, and the song Heroes or Ghosts by The Coronas came on. Her face lit up and she began singing, and it was the sweetest thing I think I had ever heard in my life.

Oh I really am going all mushy with all this mate crap... I chuckled to myself and looked at her singing. I was entranced. Totally captivated. I stopped paying attention to the road. Worst decision I had ever made. What happened could never be reversed.

In the seconds I looked back to the road a truck was coming on head on, only meters away. Tyres screeched along the road, Chloe screaming out my name, the trucks horn blaring. I hit the brakes, but all of it was useless. It did nothing. I called out Chloes name, before I saw black.

I woke up, very confused, my sight blurred. I searched frantically for Chloe. My chest hurt. The most intense pain I had ever felt. I screamed out in pain buckling over. I forced myself up to go and look for Chloe.

The noises coming out of me were animalistic when I saw her. A piece of metal stuck out of her abdomen. Her lifeless body lay slumped in the car. I got to her as fast as I could. I linked David and the pack doctors.

Chloe. Accident. Now.

Even through the link my voice was pleading. Desperate. Her eyes were open, as lifeless as her body was. I closed them gently. I put my forehead to hers. I cried like I never knew I could. I didn't care if it made me look weak. The pain of losing my mate was unbearable. Through the racking sobs, I put my head up and howled in pain.

"Me beautiful Chloe.... I am so sorry that this happened..." I said through the sobs.

I heard the pack arrive behind me. Gasps were the only thing to be heard.

The pack doctor came forward. "Alpha Kai, we need to move her before attention is attracted here. Pack members are already attending to the truck driver. We need to leave." I put a light kiss against her forehead as I walked over to David who gave me a sympathetic look and a hand on the shoulder.

I couldn't look as they moved her. I turned to David. "Well should go. I'll have to prepare her fune-" I couldn't even say the words out loud. It would make what happened too real.

David and I got into his truck, and he drove us home. The drive was silent. I didn't say anything, and David knew not to say anything. I could smell a strange scent off him that I recognised, but now really wasn't the tome to be bringing that up.

The drive back seemed too quick. I knew the pack knew. They would have felt it as much as I. Taking a deep breath, I stepped out and walked into the pack house. Any wolf who passed me dipped their heads as a sign of respect and sadness.

As much as I had lost my Mate they all lost their Luna. The mother figure to them all. She may not have gone through the official ceremony yet, but nethertheless she was still their Luna.

I walked straight past everyone and to my room. It was no longer our room. I opened the door. The sheets were still unmade. Clothes strewn around the floor. The boxes of mostly unpacked things lay on her side. She hadn't gotten around to unpacking it yet. She wouldn't get to now.

I sat down on the bed and inhaled her scent which just about lingered there. I couldn't even think anymore. I had lost my other half. The one the Moon Goddess had picked for me is gone.

I sat up replaying the events that had happened earlier on in the day over and over. It wouldn't stop circulating around my head. I sat there. I realised it all so suddenly.

I had killed my mate.

So that took a sad turn... this was kinda a filler chapter so not as long as usual.

This is slowly coming together aha.
