Clockwork

177 28 21

Once upon a time,

There was a girl born of sky and sea,

With a mind full of the wind's whispers,

And eyes as vibrant as the waves' beauty.

Once upon a time,

There was a man built of clockwork and sage,

With the heart of an unfaltering lion,

Entangled in a cobweb ribcage.

And upon that shattered mirror, they fought,

To discern reality from dream,

But often found that black and white,

Was rarely candor's color scheme.

Her eyes a kaleidoscope of chaos,

The world a splintering mess,

Where every dewdrop's truly blood,

Every feeble voice suppressed.

When each image is distorted.

In a gaudy neon mess,

Every rose a ruined vestige,

Of a beauty past possessed.

Afore, the copper of the Gods,

That glinted in his eyes,

Now marred by curious patterns,

Eclipsing those amber-rusty skies.

For when the simplest sight,

Became a psychedelic dream,

And everything she used to know,

Unraveled at its seam...

Perhaps she'll learn that,

In that ticking clock-heart paragon,

Is hidden a dark mystery,

She'll never see as gone.
