chapter 1

Normani Kordei Hamilton

my alarm takes me out of my slumber and I instantly hit the button . it was way too early for this shit . I hastily threw the sheets of my body and was instantly met with the cold air . I took a shower before doing a routine that I was familiar with . once I was done , I headed downstairs to find my two best friends drinking coffee .

"morning ." I tell them as I make a cup of coffee .

"morning ." they both say in unison .

I could tell that they weren't as happy waking up this early . I was about to sit down when ally interrupts .

"sergeant just texted me that he needs to talk to us ."

I rolled my eyes before putting my coffee in my thermos . I got my things and headed out but not before locking up . I wasn't about to have things stolen from my house because the shit I have is way too expensive and I'd be damned if I let anyone break in . the girls were already in the car so when I got in and closed the door , Lauren took off towards the station .

I was the first one out of the car and headed to the sergeant's office . I really wanted to know what he wanted to talk about . as we neared the office , there were two ladies , one was sitting but the other was standing . I could only catch a glimpse at her backside before opening the door and tripping . I silently cursed at myself for being stupid and looked up to find the sergeant and two ladies staring at me with concern . behind me , I heard Lauren and ally snickering . I gave them a glare before standing up .

"Hamilton , are you okay ?"

"yes sir , I wasn't paying attention . I apologize ."

"I'm guessing you were thinking about what I was going to tell you ."

I nodded . it was the truth but I had tripped over nothing when I saw the lady that was standing . she had beautiful blonde locks and I knew it wasn't her real hair . I had to admit it was pretty .

"Normani !" Lauren scolded as I was brought back to the real world .

"I apologize once again . my head isn't thinking straight ." I admitted .

"because you aren't ." ally muttered , earning a glare from me .

I looked back to the sergeant who was sitting in his chair . the short lady with brunette hair took a seat and ally took the seat beside her . the blonde lady was standing against the wall and her face was beautiful . no , Normani . you can't have a relationship with a fellow detective . that is off limits .

"Normani , I need you to stop zoning out . this is very important and you have cases to solve so this will be quick ."

"yes sir ." I said , before sitting in ally's lap .

the two ladies were confused but I didn't pay no attention because I wanted to know what the sergeant had to say .

"from now on , Dinah Jane Hansen and Camila Cabello are going to be your partners . I expect you three to treat them as you do with your fellow coworkers ."

I immediately got on my feet .

"what ?!" I screamed along with Lauren , who looked pissed as well .

"there must be a mistake . we don't do partners especially if it's with people we don't know ." ally calmly said , as she took my hand .

"there is no mistake Allyson . I have paired these two with you because they will balance you out with your skills ."

"there's no way in hell I will work with them ." I hissed .

the newcomers stayed quiet knowing that if they spoke , it wasn't going to have the best outcome .
