"GRAYSON, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!"

Mom sounded really angry and she rarely yelled at Dad. Something was up, so I got up from the bed, despite my headache, and took Mae's hand in mine before heading down the stairs. The triplets must have heard Mom as well since they were heading down the stairs. Then again, aliens living on Pluto probably heard it.

"Come on, Flower, its really cute," Dad said. All five of us were gathered by the stairs, the only still being in her room was Tulip. That girl was a heavy sleeper and even though those Pluto aliens heard Mom's yelling, Tulip probably didn't.

"Cute?" Mom said. "We can't have that as a pet."

       A pet?

       I looked in Dad's arms.

"No way," I said. "Dad, you're amazing!"

"Don't encourage him, Ryder," Mom said.

I ignored Mom and walked over to Dad. "Oh my gosh, it's so cute! I haven't even seen once in real life before."

"What about when I took you to that animal sanctuary?" Dad asked

"What about when I took you to that animal sanctuary?" Dad asked.

"I was seven and I didn't see one this close before," I said. "How'd you get this one?"

"Its home was polluted and some colleagues found it with a bunch of grease on it," Dad said. "They brought him back to the animal clinic, washed him up, checked him out, then called me to take him home because they all know I'm obsessed with otters."

"Grayson, you can't just take home an otter and expect it to be a pet," Mom said. "We already have enough going on with the baby on the way, Ryder and his dancing, Tulip and her dancing, the triplets making a mess...."

"We don't make that big of a mess," Orchid objected.

Mom sighed and looked back at Dad. "You couldn't have talked to me first?"

"Not really, no," Dad said. "Because I knew you would have said no. Hey, Ryder, want to hold it."

"Of course," I said, so Dad handed the otter over. "Aww, he's so cute. What's his name?"

"He's not getting a name because we're not keeping him," Mom said.

"Flower, why are you so uptight?" Dad asked. "I've worked with animals for years. I know everything there is to know about otters. I know how to take care of one. Ryder probably knows almost as much as I do. It will be fine."

"I'm so uptight because of everything that's going on!" Mom said. "The pregnancy, the funds for Ryder and Tulip's dancing, Ryder coming home drunk last night just because his girlfriend is moving!"

I'm not going to lie, Mom saying that hurt a lot. I regretted drinking yesterday, of course. But she didn't have to hold that over my head.
