Chapter 32

"Ryder...." a voice said softly, waking me out of my sleep. I opened my eyes, seeing Mae sitting on my bed. I groaned and rested my face in my pillow.

"Leave me alone," I said, my voice a bit muffled. "I'm tired."

"What's this whole thing about being arrested?" Mae asked. "Isla texted me, asking if it was true because apparently, everyone is talking about it. They're saying you were arrested at a party."

"I wasn't arrested," I said. "The cop that showed up was friends with my dad in high school and college, and he must have realized that I was his son, so he took my home because I was really drunk."

"You drank?" Mae said. "Have you drank before?"

"No," I said. "It was my first time, so I must have been a lightweight because I only drank a whole bottle. Not even that much."

Mae sighed and got up, walking out of the bedroom. I frowned, resting my face in my pillow again. I guess she was disappointed or mad that I went out drinking. It wasn't my fault, though. Teenagers always did irrational things.

Soon enough, someone sat down on my bed. "I got you some water and Advil," Mae said.

       I guess she wasn't mad.

I sat up, rubbing my eyes before taking the Advil and water. "Thanks," I said.

"Why did you drink?" Mae asked in a soft voice. "You've never been the type of person to go out to parties."

       "Because you're moving," I said.

"Ryder, it won't be permanently," Mae said.

"If it's not permanent, then why are you moving in the first place?" I asked.

"Because I don't have a say in it," Mae said. "My mom just wants to move back to Quebec and even though I like it down here, it's final. I don't want to move, believe me. Even though I basically grew up there and started dancing there, I like it here."

I stared at the glass of water in my hand. I didn't get it. Why did Mae have to move back, especially when she just moved down here.

"It won't be forever," she said. "I already decided that I wanted to go to university here. I'll move back here next school year."

"So eight months?" I asked. "We have to spend eight months apart?"

"Are you not into a long distance relationship?" she asked.

"No, of course I'm into it if it's with you," I said. "It doesn't change the fact that I won't be able to see you everyday. No hugging, no kissing, no cuddling. No sex." I meant the last part as a joke just to make Mae laugh. Well, I mainly meant it was a joke.

Mae giggled a bit. "Trust me, I'm going to miss not hearing your jokes or doing all that couple stuff. I'm going to miss dancing with you, but I've tried convincing my mom to let us stay. I've tried, Ryder, but she's not changing her mine. I'm sorry."

"Don't be, Mae," I said. "I guess these things happen. I'll try, though. I will try a long distance relationship. I'll text you everyday, Skype you every other day, call you everyday. We won't lost connection."

Mae smiled and wrapped her arms around me. "I love you a lot, Ryder. No matter how far we are, we'll always be together."

"I love you, too, M--" I was cut off when yelling suddenly came from downstairs.
