Chapter 28

I kept the promise I made to my self. After what April said to Mae, I was going to make her feel extremely jealous. Mae tried talking to April because she didn't want April to keep the grudge she was holding, but then April decided to say hurtful things.

All because April liked me. She was still new to the city and didn't know me that much, yet she thought I would dump Mae for her. Mae meant everything to me, and she definitely was special.

My constant attempts to make April jealous only got me in trouble at school. Apparently, I was showing too much PDA and Tony ended up giving me detention. Okay, kissing Mae all the time wasn't too much PDA. Or spinning her around and giving her a dip kiss. Or showering her with kisses.

Okay, I was starting to see Tony's point.

So here I was, alone in detention because nobody else got it for after school today. I sighed and leaned back in the seat. "Uncle Tony, can I leave?" I asked. "Nobody else is here."

"You can leave when detention is over," he said. "A lot of students were complaining about the PDA you were showing."

"Was April one of them?" I asked in a mutter.

Tony didn't seem to hear me. "What?"

"Nothing," I said. "Come on, it wasn't like I was just doing it for the fun of it."

"Then why were you doing it?" Tony asked.

I sighed. "There's this new girl who likes me and hates Mae because of it. She said some things to Mae and is always picking on everything she does, so I was trying to show her how much Mae means to me. Okay, and the other part of me did it because I love kissing her."

"You could probably deal with it a more civil way," Tony said.

"Kissing Mae is civil," I said.

"I mean, you could talk to that new girl," Tony said. "Just tell her you don't appreciate the way she treats Mae and ask if she could stop."

I snorted. "Right, because that will totally fix everything. You know my aunt Thalia, right? Graeme's wife?" Tony nodded. "And how she used to date my dad?" Another nod. "Dad always told her to stop picking on Mom because of how much he loves her, but that didn't stop Aunt Thalia. There was also another girl when my parents were in university."

"Yeah, but just because two girls wouldn't leave your dad alone, it doesn't mean all girls are like that," Tony said. "You could try talking to her and if it doesn't work, just ignore her. Okay, I'll let you leave, but no more excessive PDA."

"I can't promise anything," I said as I picked up my backpack. "Thanks, Uncle Tony." I picked up my backpack and walked out of the room. Maybe I should try talking to April. After all, she didn't seem like those girls that chased after Dad.

I decided to talk to her tomorrow at school, but I saw April at her locker, talking to someone. I waited until the other person walked away before walking up to April. "Can we talk?" I asked.

April gave me a smile. "Yeah, sure."

"Mae told me what you said," I said.

April furrowed her eyebrows. "About what?"

"About how she's not that special," I said. "And I'm just going to toss her aside. Mae never did anything to you. She wanted to make things right, but you decided to say that. Why?"
