5 years later

"Totoro, catch!"

Satoru watched as a now seventeen year old Chelsea played with a wolf from the forest near them. The same wolf she had found a few years ago. She had named him Totoro, which was somewhat too cute for him. He was at least twice her size now with teeth to match.

Totoro snarled aggressively, black fur rippling as he caught and broke the rabbit's neck in his jaws. Chelsea's eyes lit up in delight. "Good boy!"

Her way of playing with Totoro did not faze Satoru one bit.

The aura that now surrounded his niece had built up, more noticeable and intimidating, Satoru had to admit, than ever before. He watched as Chelsea healed a scratch on Totoro's paw he had gotten while playing, eyes glowing red at will.

She was indeed stronger than the little girl he had begun to raise so long ago.

Satoru sighed, noticing their curfew was reached. It was certainly time to tell her about it. Now or never.

"Time to go inside!" he called, then entered the house. Chelsea and Totoro followed.

They made small talk over dinner. Chelsea had grown very close to Satoru because he had taken care of her for so long, and anything that interested her usually interested him as well.

"-and I read of human life in cities today. They're really interesting, Uncle. Totoro and I absolutely enjoyed it," she said, talking about one of Satoru's books she had read that day. He was glad that he had kept so many from when he still lived in the city.

Now was the time to tell her.

"Chelsea," he began after she calmed down. "There is something I have to tell you. You have finally come of age to know. It is about the other side of your family."

Chelsea seemed surprised. "Yes, Uncle Satoru?" His name meant 'enlightened' in Japanese, and enlighten her he would.

All fell silent as Satoru said, "Truth is, your mother's clan was murdered. Who did it, I still do not know. Your father saw it unsafe to bring you home with him, so he left you with me. I have taught you everything he would teach you and your strength is great. You are ready to leave here now, Chelsea, and seek answers about your family if you wish, without my company. Your father's family is still alive, and recent information proves that the clan's murderers still live as well. That is all I can tell you."

He was amazed that she stayed silent the entire time. It was not natural of her. He looked at her and was shocked to find her head down, aura growing a violent blue-black. She looked up at him, eyes blazing red instead of the original, calm black.

"Is that so? Well, I will leave to seek answers. I'm still most curious." Her anger and coldness towards the topic scared but also somewhat impressed him. His brother would be proud of her as well. He had raised her the way their family would. She was even more formidable with all the knowledge and experience she had gained during her stay here.

"Of course, Chelsea." Chelsea came out of her room, dagger, katana, and a few other belongings with her.

"I will see you when I do, Uncle." She gave Totoro a few commands before finally exiting the house, not looking back once.

Satoru sighed, leaning back on his chair. Perhaps he had grown too soft over the years while living apart from the rest of the family. That much was evident in the way he treated Chelsea.

But the coldness Chelsea had expressed towards the issue of her family's killers proved he hadn't lost all of it. He had developed one of the most essential parts of her personality. His work was done here. Chelsea would be a great addition to the rest of the family once they learned of her.

He relaxed into his chair even further. Her father would be extremely proud of what she had become.
