My Chance;

Farkle Minkus.

"How have I never seen you before? You're so handsome!" Riley smiled dreamily.

"Would you like to go on a date?" I asked as I flexed my muscles. Her smile grew even larger into her open mouth smile that is so pretty.

"Meow." She replied.

"Wait what?" I was so confused

"Meeeow." She said and that's when I was awoken from my cat Higgs. I named him after the subatomic particle (science stuff).

I turned and looked at my clock and it was 7:34am. I jumped out of bed sending Higgs flying. I put on my red sweatshirt and black jeans and converse. I wanted to look good for one person. I brushed my hair and teeth.
It was September 7th, the first day of 12th grade.

I live in a small house with my mom, dad, brother Leo (12), baby sister Polly, and sister Grace (6) I hardly get any personal space.

I put on some cologne and grabbed my bag and phone. I said goodbye to the only one who cares that I leave.

"Goodbye Higgs, I'll miss you." I pet him and stood up leaving my room. My mom was in the kitchen cooking for the younger kids.

"Farkle! Come have some food." My mom bugged me but I protested. I can't eat or else I'll throw up. "Why do you look so handsome today?"

"He's trying to impress Riley Matthews. She's out of your league!" Leo yelled while playing a game on his Game boy.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed my car keys. I drive a beat up car that was given to me for my 16th birthday.

I left the house without anyone noticing. When I arrived at the school I stepped out of my car and locked it. I could see Riley's Subaru Forester. I've always wondered why she drove when she could just go with her dad.
Mr.Matthews was the highschool history teacher.

I stood in front of the double doors that lead into the school. I took a deep breath and mumbled 'please go well'. I walked in and found my new locker. I opened it and put my things in. I looked to my left to see Maya Hart, Riley's best friend.

"Fuck." Maya groaned as she pushed all of her things into the locker that was beside mine. I closed my locker and looked around for my other friend Matt.

"Hey bud!" Matt said and I swung around to see my childhood friend in front of me. Matt went to science camp this summer so I didn't see him much.

"Hey Matt, how was camp?" I asked with a smile on my face. He blabbed on and on about everything he learned. But I stopped listening when I saw Riley walking down the hallway. She would stop and talk to people and freshmen.

She made her way over to Maya who was still struggling with her locker.

"Peaches, organization is key." Riley smiled and Maya slouched her shoulders.

"Please help me." Maya said in a baby voice. Riley nodded and Maya walked away to talk to the jocks in no time. Riley shook her head.

"But I'll talk to you later, Farkle." Matt said and I nodded my head and he walked away.

Riley pulled Maya's bag out of the locker and accidentally pulled her folder out too. All Maya's papers fell onto the floor. The bell rang and people avoided the big paper spill.

"oh brother." Riley sighed and dropped onto her knees and frantically grabbed papers.

This was my chance.
I could make my way into Riley's life right now. I kneeled down and began grabbing papers she looked at me and smiled.

"You really don't need to-" Riley began to say but I shook my head and cut her off quickly.

"Hey, it's my pleasure helping you out." I said and put the papers back into the folder. I stood up and gave her my hand to help her up. As soon as our hands touched I gasped a little. She stood up and was still holding my hand.

"did I do something?" Riley said while she put both her hands on mine and squeezed them. All I could think about is how she had never looked or talked to me and now she was.

I frantically shook my head and she let go. I kinda missed the feeling of her hands touching mine.

"Oh um okay, see you around...." She said turning a pink colour. She wanted to know my name. I thought about making a fake name up so she wouldn't laugh at me.

"Farkle." I said and waited for a laugh. It took a minute for me to realize she wasn't going to.

"That's so unique, bye Farkle." She smiled and walked away. Once she turned the corner I jumped in joy.
