“Louie as in …?”
“Yeah that one.” I cut him off swiftly.
“And then I call you and you’re having sex with some girl. God help me. Today’s been horrible.” I suddenly realise how whiny I must sound and attempted to remove some of it from my tone.
“Sorry Reni. I’m really sorry about the phone thing.” He apologized again and I felt even worse.
“Jayson, it’s been really stressful lately.” I sighed as I flopped backwards into my bed.
“Reni…” He began before trailing off.
“I don’t know. I’m trying to keep it together but everyone keeps asking and expecting things.” I spoke, feeling the bottled frustration being released.
“Reni…” He trailed off again, not saying anything in particular.
“Is the only thing you can say right now my name?” I laughed for the first time this afternoon.
“Reni…” I could hear the uncertainty in his voice, as if he didn’t know how to respond.
“See, you’re at it again.” I pointed out.
“Okay. So what are you going to do?” He said finally something noteworthy.
“I want a break from everything.” I sighed. “Everything.”
“Vacation?” He expanded questioningly.
“Yeah.” I nodded to myself. “Vacation. Will you be alright without me?”
“At work?” He responded, unsure.
“Where else?” I replied sarcastically.
“Oh well yeah. That’s fine. I can get Hazel to do most of the things you do.”
“Yeah I guess. I did hire a brilliant secretary!” I laughed at the thought of her. She’s made my past few years more fun than I could ever imagine. “It’s only going to be a month or so… hopefully.”
“Yeah okay... hopefully.” He chuckled at his own joke. He then paused and continued. “When are you leaving?”
“ASAP. Tomorrow hopefully, if I can book a flight.”
“You’re leaving from Sydney Airport right?”
“Yeah. You going to be there to see me off right?” I threw back in a teasing tone.
“Yeah of course.” He sounded surprised I even asked.
“Oh. Well thanks.” I felt touched. I knew I could always count on him. “See you tomorrow?”
“Yeah. I’ll drive you to the airport, ‘kay?” He asked for confirmation.
“Yeah got it. Bye.”
“Bye Reni.”

I gazed at from the platform out into the airplane runways. The buzz of people eating and saying their last goodbyes, the sound of people crying and the sounds of people jumping with joy at being reunited with someone they had been apart from for so long.
“Reni!” I turned at the sound of Jayson’s voice. “Hot chocolate with a heap of sugar and a marshmallow. Just the way you like it.” He handed me a coffee cup labelled with Gloria Jeans.
“Thanks.” I took a sip and I sighed. “Perfecto.” I clicked my fingers together, satisfied. I smiled back at him and he stuffed his hands in his jean pockets.
“Make sure you call right?” He began his farewell speech.
“Only if something happens.” I replied as I sipped my coffee.
“Fine but I expect postcards okay?” He looked at me pointedly and I shrugged.
“Fine. I’ll waste a few dollars to buy a postcard.”
He put his hand over his heart. “Waste? I am so hurt.”
“Yeah, whatever. Oh yeah.” I looked up from my dissolving marshmallow. “You know the orphanage I visit every week?”
“The one a few minutes from your apartment?”
“Yeah. I haven’t told them yet so you have to take my place every week and go instead of me okay?”
“Like just stop by?”
“No. No. No. Like volunteer. Do anything they tell you to. Like clean, cook, fix, play and everything.”
“What!?” He looked panicked.
“What’s wrong?” I furrowed my eyebrows confused. “You don’t want to volunteer?”
“No! I can’t cook!” I laughed at his outburst.
“Oh well, then minus that. You can explain to them.” He opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off.
“Make sure you go.” I took a menacing step towards him. “Promise?”
“Yeah. I promise.” He sighed as he took my pinkie and we did the traditional promise.
“Final boarding call for passengers boarding flight number D567 to London. Please make your way to Gate D. I repeat. Final boarding call for passengers boarding flight number D567 to London. Please make your way to Gate D.”
“Oh.” I glanced up at the direction the speaker nearest to us sounded from. “I guess that’s my cue.” I gave Jayson a lingering hug before and heading for Gate D.

I wheeled my luggage out and headed towards the London branch of Thorne Hotels. Thank Jayson for that. He booked a room for as long as I wanted. I whipped out on my sunnies and looked out at the crowds of people in the airport waiting room.
“Welcome me London.”
