We walked to our homerom , which in our school, lasts only for fifteen minutes. So we walked into the room and sat in our seats, starting to talk. Everyone just sort of drifted in as usual before the bell rang.
Mr. Yates, our teacher, started taking attendance. I zoned out until I felt Karla poke me in the ribs. "He's calling on you," she hissed.
"Ms. Burnham?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Are you with us?"
"Yes," I answered.
He gave a satisfied nod and kept calling names. He read off the announcements, such as next week is Spirit Week. He handed out a schedule with the information on it.
"Oh, joy, we wear our uniforms for Color Day," I muttered. Now, our cheerleading uniforms are pretty short. They're blue-and-green pleated skirts, very tight ong-sleeve tops that cut off right below our chests', and white knee-socks. Of course, we usually wear white shirts under our shirts, but it was still embarrassing.
But I was looking forward to it even less this time around. I'll probably look too fat in it so everyone would make fun of me.
"Hey, Alexa, you're zoning out," Karla said, snapping her fingers in front of my face.
I jumped and shook my head. "What?"
"What were you thinking about? You weren't thinking about that text, were you?" she bored her eyes into mine. "You were, weren't you? Alexa, you're not fat or ugly or stuck up. Trust me. Please jus forget about it!" she pleaded.
You see, Karla is very sensitive to the subject of dieting. Her mom died when she was twelve. Of anorexia. So she's always very strict with it, and she's really going to be on my case about it if I keep thinking about the text.
"I'll try," I mumbled, promising her.
"Okay. Come on, let's head to math," she said. We're both in Advanced Math, so we're doing eleventh grade stuff, so geometry.
We sat in our seats as Mr. Brown walked into the classroom. He sat in his desk and watched everyone come in, chattering and laughing. When the bell rang, everyone shut up and sat down.
He collected our homework, and then gave us one hundred problems to do. I sighed, opening up my math book to the right page, and turning to a fresh sheet in my notebook. Then I opened up my graphing calculator and started clicking in the numbers.
I got up to number fifty-six by the time class was done. Then Karla and I walked to our lockers. I flung mine open and looked at my schedule quickly.

The good thing about high school is that you get to pick your electives! We change every semester, which is roughly every twenty weeks. And the only required classes we have to have are two semesters of gym and a semester of health. already did one semester of both in nineth grade and this semester is over in two weeks.
Karla and I are very lucky this year, and we have every class together.
Next year, I will already have had all of my social studies credits, so I get three electives. And I'll only need a semester more of science and I'll have all my credits. Same thing with Karla. We take extra classes during the summer so we get ahead.
We both grabbed our science stuff and walked to the science lab. We sat down at our assigned lab tables and stared setting up our lab that we were going to be continuing.
The only reason Karla and I get to be together for every class is because we're very good students and we never cause trouble. We're about the only 'popular people' who are actually nice and smart. All of the teachers really like us so we're on their good sides!
Karla and I are lab partners, which turns out very well. We balance the work and we get to hang out ater school while we do our homeowrk together! When Ms. Sanders came in, the whole class was ready with aprons and goggles on.
She handed out the half-finished labs and we all got to work. We were doing a very, very, very simple and easy lab. We just had to combine different colors and record what colors they turn. I have no idea why we were doing such a simple lab, because I could do this in my sleep.
Karla and I finsihed a little early, so we wrote up a quick lab report and turned it in. Then we happily walked to the other end of the building, towards the drama/arts center. We walked into the choir room to see about sixty kids already there, all singing to themselves or talking with their friends. Karla and I exchanged a happy glance; this is our favorite class, for sure.
We do fun and upbeat songs with choreography, and we have two yearly shows; a winter and spring concert. We're working on our spring one, and we are learning results for a select group of three girls and two guys to sing a long part in our ballod, which is a song Ave Maria combined with I Believe. The girls have to sing in Latin while the guys sing in English!
A couple minutes later, we were all sitting on the risers and anxiously waiting for the results of the people who get to sing the song.
Ms. Jones spoke into her microphone, "So, do you guys want to know who got the special part?"
"Yeah!" we all screamed.
"Okay, well, we have Kyle and Tyler, for the guys."
The both stood up and we all clapped and cheered. "And for the girls, we have....Karla! Sasha! And our lead singer....."
Sorry for the cliffy! But, well, I just realized how long this is and I don't want it to be like 6 pages r something! Anwyays, please
