Hollow

She knew she'd been distancing herself
From everyone around her.
Now something strange has begun to occur,
She feels disconnected from her own body.
None of her actions are tangible,
She is barely tethered to this earthly plane.
She's walking but it doesn't feel as if she's controlling her legs.
Her eyes lack focus,
And her brain can't take in any information.
The people surrounding her are nothing more than a backdrop,
Paper objects floating around,
Making irrelevant noise
As the music bangs in her eardrums.
She knows that it will not take much
For the tiny strand keeping her soul trapped in this hollow mass of mortality,
To break her connection to the world for good.
