Lei

So this is it. I have to let her go now. It's about time. I've been too greedy thinking she'll be mine for life. As I see her leave with Mark, I know she'll be ok. Mark's not as bad as I thought he was. He was able to get her back safely. I can't thank him enough for that.

Although she's the only person who can keep me sane, I have to give her up. She's done more than enough to help me. If I keep her beside me, she'll be in more danger.

My breathing becomes ragged as I wait for the people to come in my room.

Father is the first. I want to laugh at his expression. His eyebrows are furrowed and his lips are turned down to a frown. His ears and neck are so red. I just keep my chuckles inside. I hope I don't look like him when I get older...IF I get older.

"Hu, ChengLei!" His voice reverberates around the room. For such an old man, how can his voice be this loud?

"Father!" My voice is weak compared to his. I look behind him and there's my mom, Lisa...and oh...look...her parents. What a reunion. The only thing missing is the wedding officiator so we can go on with the damn marriage.

"What happened to you? Are you crazy?" He continues with his booming voice.

Yes...I'm crazy. And so are you.

I just stare back at him.

"I heard your girl ran away." There's a slight smirk on his face. So, they still don't know that Jess is here. Good. "What can you say about that?"

"She's no longer my girl. I broke the engagement." My revelation shocks all of them, including Lisa.

My father is speechless for a while. "You...broke up?"

"Yes," I roll my eyes at him, sighing.

"So...you're agreeing to marrying Zeng's daughter?" He still couldn't believe it.

"Yes." I take a deep breath. This one's for you Jess.

All eyes are on me. Lisa's expression is priceless. I think I hear her swallow hard. Her mom is almost in tears, so is my mom. She runs to my side and hugs me real tight, making me gasp for air.

"I'm sorry," my mom says, loosening her hold around me.

For all the things I've done, I feel that this is the only one that's right. Even though it hurts, this is my fate. Mark's gonna take care of her. I'm sure of it. This is the least I can do for ruining their relationship.

Our parents, Lisa's and mine, are all smiles. I'm not sure though if they would still be smiling after they learn what I did.

I just laugh at them inside.

Lisa

Did I hear him right? Did he just agree to marrying me? What about Jess? Is she ok?

By the look on Lei's eyes, I'm guessing he's seen her and that she's fine. I sigh in relief.

As I stare down at the man I'm going to marry, I can't help but feel his sincerity. He is sacrificing everything for the love of his life. There story has come to an end and he's accepting it with all his heart. My heart warms up at the realization that such a man would soon be my husband.

He's not so bad after all. Would he do the same for me once we're married? Can I give up my career and focus on this man? Is it worth it?

"Can you leave us to talk?" Lei asks the elders. After our parents have left, he reaches out his hand, motioning me to get closer.
