Us victors are family now, not by blood but we're knitted together by the games. Sophie waves and says with her babyish poor pronunciation
"Hi Finn"
He smiles and says shyly
"Hi"
Annie says
"Why don't you two go play?"
They both cheer. I let Sophie down from my arms as Annie does with Finn and together they run unsteadily around the bakery. Annie goes to talk to Peeta whilst I approach Johanna, who I haven't actually spoken to yet. She's sitting at one of the tables, sipping on a glass of some bubbly Capitol beverage. I sit beside her and take a glass from the tray of the table, taking a quick sip only to be greeted by a sour yet satisfying taste of some kind of Apple fizzy drink. She turns to me after a moment and says
"Well well brainless. You made it to 19. You feel like it's a great accomplishment!"
She looks different from when I last saw her, her hair now grown again and sitting on her shoulders. Yet her ways have never changed and her slightly bitter but humorous personality still remains. I knew this when I spoke to her only months ago, I decided to call her just to see how she's doing. I know it can't be great in district 7 all alone with no one whatsoever. I say to her
"Totally. Great accomplishment"
She says to me
"Your kid seems to have taken a pretty quick warming to Peeta"
She gestures toward Peeta who has Sophie sitting on his knee. I smile and say
"I knew that would happen. He's always wanted kids, anyone could see that"
Johanna grins and says
"Well he's got one now... So brainless how's life?"
I scoff but laugh soon after. I say
"I don't know Johanna how is life?"
She shrugs her shoulders and says
"Not great, better though. District 7 is a bit boring, the population is still taking its time to get bigger. I'd say I could name every person who lives there right here right now"
I laugh, soon asking her
"How long are you staying?"
She replies
"Couple of days I'd say. I know Annie's leaving tomorrow evening so I might get the train back with her and Finn but I'll see how things go here"
I nod. After a while we all have cake and sit down, other than Sophie and Finn who run around a bit more. I sit beside Peeta and lean my head on his shoulder before whispering softly for only him to hear
"Thank you, for all of it. This is the best birthday anyone could ask for"
He whispers back
"You deserve the best"
I kiss him gently on the lips, the taste of icing on both of our lips. I whisper
"I love you"
He whispers back
"I love you more"
I tell him
"Not possible"
This makes him grin. -- When I come down after putting Sophie to bed I find Peeta finishing putting the dishes in the cupboard. I ask him as he puts away the plates
"Where are Johanna and Annie staying tonight?"
He replies
"The other houses here. The one next door was apparently the most clean and organised so I think they are there"
I nod. Once he is done. I grab his hand and lead him out of the room and up the stairs. When I am about to enter my bedroom he pulls on my hand, forcing me to look at him as he sends me a confused look. I tell him softly
"Stay with me?"
He nods and whispers in response
"Always"
I pass him a pair of pyjamas he left last time he was here before going into the bathroom to change into my own nightgown.When I emerge I climb under the bedcovers with Peeta and settle down into his arms. My eyes are about to come to a close when I hear him say softly
"You love me, Real or not real?"
I tell him in response without a single doubt
"Real"
I lay my hand on his as his arms around me close in slightly and I fall asleep watch the pearl on the bracelet that sits on top of both me and Peeta's hands
