"I'm running out of time," he muttered. "She's gonna forget about me if I don't do something soon."
So hello from the other side, (other side)
I must have called a thousand times; (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done,
But when I call you never seem to be home.
"You're doing what?!" Tooth exclaimed, turning away from counting the teeth to give Jack a look of disbelief and shock.
"You heard," Jack sighed. "I'm going to see her."
"Jack, are you serious? You can't see her!" Tooth exclaimed.
"Why not? I have to see her again," Jack reasoned. "I miss her, and I'm pretty sure she misses me too, or at least thinks about me."
"Jack," Tooth started firmly, her motherly side coming into play. "You can't see (y/n)."
"Why not?!" Jack snapped, his frustration coming out as he stood up.
Standing up to even him, Tooth's violet eyes flared with anger and frustration as well.
"Well? Why not?!" Jack persisted.
"BECAUSE IT'S BEEN FIVE YEARS, JACK!" Tooth yelled.
Hello from the outside, (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried; (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart,
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore.
Jack's anger immediately faded and was replaced with shock, sadness and realization.
Calming down, Tooth sighed resignedly and rubbed at her feathered forehead, before continuing weakly, saying, "It's . . . it's been five years . . . since you broke up with (y/n) . . . because you were a Guardian, and since . . . since she stopped believing in you."
Jack looked down, his ice blue eyes wet with sadness. "I know," he whispered. "I know."
"She doesn't believe anymore, Jack. And you know believers are getting harder and harder to gain back these days," Tooth said. "It just can't happen."
"Maybe . . ." Jack's eyes lit up again as they were filled with determination and courage, "but that's not gonna stop me!"
And before Tooth could say anything, Jack flew up and out of her palace, leaving her sighing tiredly.
"At least I tried . . ." she murmured, before going back to counting the teeth.
Ooooh, anymore . . .
Ooooh, anymore . . .
Ooooh, anymore, anymore . . .
After much investigation, Jack had finally managed to find out where you moved to, he immediately travelled there as quickly as he possibly could - he didn't want to waste anymore time.
He landed on your front porch, and looked up at your bedroom window to see if he could see you.
And he could - but what else he saw was shocking and disturbing.
You in your bedroom . . .
. . . with another guy.
Now, of course, Jack didn't know how that guy was related to you, but still - the way you were looking at him, smiling at him, laughing with him, gave him a sick feeling in his stomach.
Wanting to get a closer look, Jack slowly flew up to your window and peeked through the side, under the belief that you might see him.
From there, he was able to hear your conversation with the strange guy in your room. Apparently, he was telling a hilarious story which you were laughing your head off to.
Jack's heart clenched at how funny you were finding this guy. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he was surprised and relieved to see his phone was resting in one of them.
Realizing what he could do, Jack quickly yanked his phone out of his pocket and dialed your number, before holding the phone to his ear. Now he would be able to find out why you had been rejecting your calls.
He saw you jump slightly as you realized your phone was vibrating against your leg. The guy you were with raised an eyebrow curiously. "And who might that be?" he asked playfully.
Shrugging in response, you picked up your phone and looked at the screen. Jack's heart lifted. This was it!
Your face scrunched up in annoyance. You sighed. You hung up.
"Just another wrong number," you muttered irritably. "I don't understand why they keep calling me. I don't know them, they don't know me; I wish they would just stop bothering me, and use an actual number."
Jack's heart sunk all the way to his feet.
All he was to you . . . was just a wrong number.
So hello from the other side, (other side)
I must have called a thousand times; (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done,
But when I call you never seem to be home.
She really doesn't believe in me anymore . . . does she? Jack realized, a stray tear falling out of his eye, followed by a few more.
"Hi, there; you've reached (y/n)'s voicemail! Sorry I'm not able to take your call right now, but if you just leave me a message, I'll get right back to you as soon as possible. Promise!"
Jack didn't even react as he heard your voicemail message; he was too busy focusing on the fact that he basically meant nothing more to you.
"I'm sorry, you get all these random calls, love," the guy said, wrapping an arm around you.
"No need to apologize." you smiled up at him. "None of them can compare to you."
Jack's heart shattered once again as he saw the two of you kiss passionately.
With his heart unable to bear anymore, Jack quickly turned away and floated down from your window.
Tears were streaming down his face like a waterfall, his normally stunning icy blue eyes now dull and puffy with sadness and dejection.
Still crying uncontrollably, Jack angrily grabbed his phone out from his pocket and, in a blind rage, threw it as far as he could away from him, relishing in the harsh smash it made as it hit the hard concrete and all the pieces came undone.
Once his phone was gone, he shed more tears, putting his hoodie up over his head looking up at your bedroom window.
Looking at your face again, he saw that you looked the happiest that you had ever been. And it was this unknown guy that was making you that happy, Jack figured.
Slowly but surely, a small, but noticeable, smile made it's way onto Jack's lips as he wiped away the rest of his tears on his sleeve.
" . . . Happy," he whispered. "What I meant to say was, 'I hope you're alright and good and happy'."
And with that, Jack turned away from your window and quietly asked for the wind to take him away, before flying up and soaring off into the sky.
Hello from the outside, (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried; (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart,
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore . . .
