21: Renzo- All Fall Down

Start from the beginning

"Five more minutes." I turned back around to snuggle deeper into my pillow.

"Fine," Mila angrily swiped off my covers. "Be an ass, but don't blame me when we can't go out again till finals."

"Mila, come back." I groaned, trying to get off the comfy bed. "Go get ready, we're gonna go to the beach."

Mila cheered and rushed out of the room after she screamed a 'thank you' in my face. How lovely.

Just before I was about to change, my phone started to ring. I saw that it was Seth calling. I don't know why, but I let it keep ringing. Hanging out with Mila today was much more important than what Seth can say. Let's face it, he's probably calling to brag about how many girls he slept with during the weekend I was gone.

"Enzo!"

Did I mention that it's important this afternoon is fully spent with Mila?

----

As we were driving to the beach, Mila and I had an easy conversation flowing between us.

Mila was softly humming the lyrics to a song while looking out the window. Since we were in her mother's Jeep, the wind was blowing violently causing her hair to be everywhere. She tried to put it into a ponytail, but according to her, she accidentally broke her last hair tie.

"Enzo," she turned to face me, this time her hair now in her mouth. "Shit, wait, I need to fix this." I stifled a laugh. Mila gave me a pointed look, basically daring me to laugh again.

"I try," she started laughing. I gasped and whipped my head towards her shaking body, "Mila! You bloody hypocrite!"

"Just drive," she still had a smile tugging her lips. "We're fifteen minutes away."

----

When we finally reached the beach, Mila jumped out of the car and raced to the shore, leaving me with all the stuff to carry. She turned around and waved me over.

"C'mon Enzo! The water's nice!"

I shook my head at her and picked up the towels and extra clothes and headed towards a spot to sit comfortably. Suddenly, my phone started to blare its loud barking ringtone causing me to jump from surprise. I don't ever a moment where my phone wasn't silent. This was odd.

I swiped to answer the call and put it on speaker since my hands were occupied and I had to set up our beach towel and umbrella.

"Hello?" I spoke into the phone.

"Zozo, it's Seth." He chortles. "Just wanted to call how you were doing."

"Everything's great," I smiled. "Mila and I are at the beach."

"Oh? That's great man. That means you won the bet then? That's fantastic! I'm gonna have to call the guys and tell em' you won! Zozo, you lucky man, finally you were able to get Mila. When you get back, we'll go celebrate your win."

"Yeah," I chuckled, ignoring Seth's words about the bet. I'll get him for that later. Right now I was in a good mood. "You do that, I'll call when I come back."

"Later Zozo," Seth hung up the phone.

I sighed, then shut off my phone. I close my eyes and lay back, feeling the warm afternoon sun rays heat up my body.

"So I was just a bet?" I heard a whisper.

My eyes snapped opened to see Mila. Her lips were in a straight line and her eyebrows bunched. She seemed like at any moment she might burst into tears.

"Enzo?" She looked at me with sad eyes. "Tell me it's not true."

I stood up and slowly went to her, but she stepped back. "Tell me Enzo, right now."

I took a deep breath, knowing that nothing I could say will fix things. "Yes, we originally bet on you."

I felt my face move to the side. She slapped me. If anything, it felt like she punched me. But I knew I deserved it.

By now, Mila was angrily slapping and kicking me. I stood there and let her.

"You fucking ass! How could you? Am I some slut to yo—" I cut Mila off by placing my hand over her mouth.

"Mila..." I paused. "I broke off the bet the morning after we spent the night together. Please hear me out."

I waited for her to scream again, but she kept silent, so I took that as a sign to continue.

"I only let Seth say that because he believes that when I told him the bet was off, he thought I was lying, thus the comment. Please, baby, trust me, I meant to tell you."

Mila looked at me, then scoffed. "When were you planning on it? Never?"

"Mila please..." I reached out to hold her hand but again she moved away, recoiling from my touch. "I'm sorry. God, you don't know how sorry I am right now."

Mila sighed before giving me a sad smile, a lone tear going down her cheek. "I need time, Enzo. Everything was fine, but you don't let me in. You should've told me that very day you called it off. Give me space and time. We're still going to have to go back to campus together. So please for me, let's just keep quiet the entire ride back."

She simply turned around and left me standing there on the beach.
