Chapter 18

"Well nice to meet you Katniss! See ya!"

He leads me over to a desk with a computer in the corner of the kitchen. At the desk sits a woman. She looks around 20 years old. She has blonde curly hair and bright blue eyes but nothing compared to Peeta's. She wears thin glasses on her head. He says to her

"Hey Rachel"

She looks up from her computer and throws her glasses off. She says casually

"Yeah?"

"This is Katniss, the girl I was talking about."

She takes a moment before saying with realisation

"Oh yes! Hi Katniss it's an honour to meet you! I'm Rachel. I'm the secretary here"

She shakes my hand whilst Peeta says. Peeta says

"Organises everything. Nothing could work here without her"

She smiles

"Of course it couldn't"

Peeta smiles and takes my hand again leading me over to a long table against the wall where two people are working. As we get closer I realise their both piping on cakes. Their designs are so elegant and neat it's amazing. Peeta taps them on the back. They both whip around. One of them smiles and says

"Hey Peeta"

The other one just smiles. Peeta replies

"Hey. This is Katniss, the one I told you about"

The one who hasn't spoken now finally says something

"Hey Katniss! Peeta has told us so much about you! I'm Mia, piper slash decorator"

I smile and shake her hand

"Hi Mia"

The other girl holds out her hand

"And I'm Lynn. Decorator and piper also. It's a great honour to meet!"

I nod and put on that fake smile again. The smile I have found myself use more than ever in the past few weeks. Lynn and Mia look very different. Lynn is tall and has a pixie cut in hair which is red. Mia is not small but smaller than Lynn and has her hair grown well past her shoulders. Peeta says goodbye to everyone and I politely smile as we walk out the door of the bakery. As we walk I feel Peeta take my hand. I don't pull away. His palm is warm and sweaty but most of all comforting. His touch is calming. We walk for a while in silence until we stop at a bench about 5 minutes away from victors village. He asks

"What did you think? Of the crew"

I smile a little and say

"Their nice. Very nice"

I look up into his blue eyes which I notice are dancing with excitement and eagerness. I laugh nervously and ask him

"What is it?"

He says

"I was wondering.... If you wanted to work there too?"

My heart stops. This is the step. The step I've been dreading. I begin to stutter

"Peeta I don't know.... I've got a lot going on.."

He interrupts softly

"I know... A lot in which I can't know about.... I can tell you are hiding something"

I open my mouth to say something. But what can I say to that? Certainly not the truth.But luckily he continues

"But Katniss.... I want to see you everyday..... And this is a perfect way for that to happen"

I smile a little and sit my head on his shoulder

"I'll think about it"

I say. I can immediately feel him grinning beside me. I look up at him

"How much does it mean to you?"

He kisses me lightly on the lips and pulls away to look into my eyes as we are a centimetre apart. He tucks a stray hair behind my ear and smiles. He says before kissing me again

"The world"
