Chapter 12

The rest of the weekend passed in a blur. On Saturday Em and I got up late, trying to ignore our headaches. My best friend didn't remember much after we had left the party, so I filled her in. She did recall Penny, the penguin head, vaguely. She wouldn't want to believe that she was humming Christmas songs all the time, though. When I told her about our little visit to the park for statue redecoration purposes, Emma pouted. She was a bit miffed that she wasn't part of our little prank and that I was now ahead of her in regard to fulfilling our Lizzy tasks. I reminded her that our list wasn't a competition and that I would gladly help her with another prank another time.

Then I asked her about red shirt guy. It turns out that he, Todd, was quite a disappointment. Not only was he a horrible dancer and had the vocabulary range of a three-year-old, but he kept calling Emma Gemma. Still, she was more than willing to ignore all that because Todd was kind of hot and the only thing she wanted from him was a little kissing action. Just as she was about to go for the kill, Todd decided that it would be the perfect moment to throw up all over the dance floor. Talk about mood kill. Anyway, Aaron came to check on us a minute later or so and they started looking for me. So Em didn't get to complete the 'kiss a random guy at a party' task, either. Which means that I was now in the lead by two; not that I was counting.

After we had swapped stories of the night before, we called Brian. We told him about the party and the prank, and tried to pry some information from him. Rather unsuccessfully. He isn't much of a talker on the phone. The only thing we gathered was that his date with Rachel had not been very pleasant and that there wouldn't be a second one. After Em had threatened to go over to his place and kick the details out of him, he promised us more details on Monday morning. I think he was a little bit scared of Emma. And if he hadn't had his cousin plus parents over for a weekend visit, there was no doubt that she really would have done that. She can be quite determined.

We all agreed on meeting at my locker a bit earlier than usual on Monday morning. And that was where I was headed, making my way through the hallway. Brian was already there waiting for us.

 "Morning."

"Hey Sarah," Brian greeted me. "Let me guess why Em just did a one-eighty down there. She forgot something in her car?"

I nodded. "Book."

He shook his head in disapproval. Brian would never be able to understand why not all people are as organized as he is.

"Hey Brian." Aaron came to a halt right next us and slapped his back. "And good morning to you, Bonnie," he grinned at me.

I raised my eyebrows. "Bonnie?"

"Yeah, Bonnie. That's my new nickname for you. Cause you're the Bonnie to my Clyde."

"I've read all about that," Brian said in a not too happy tone. "I really –"

"You've read about it?" Aaron interrupted him.

"Yeah. Haven't you guys seen it? It's in today's newspaper. It's even mentioned on the front page."

"It is?"

Brian nodded.

"Wow," Aaron couldn't hide his excitement about the fact that our little penguin head mission has been publicized; he had a huge smile on his face. "Was there a picture, too?"

Brian sighed. "Yeah, there was. But it's nothing you should be proud of," he said with a stern look at Aaron and me, obviously not approving our prank. Or maybe our high fives were simply bothering him. "They declared it to be a case of vandalism."

"Brian, man, you really missed out Friday night," Aaron stated and I could tell that he was ready to jump into a detailed retelling of everything penguin head-related.

"Do you really think we should talk about it here, Aaron? We can tell him everything later," I said, looking around us. There were quite a number of students lingering in the hallway and we really needn't anyone to know that we were the ones responsible for the act of vandalism committed on Friday night.

"You worry too much, Sarah," he simply replied.
