Chapter 8: Thank God for Byun Baekhyun

Start from the beginning

She was to blame.

But the cheating, and being called pathetic and clingy by someone you used to love, that's just a bit too much.

She let the situation sink in. Just how did it come to this so sudden?

"I didn't say that either, Mona," Jong Hoon muttered to her. The male looked back at his ex, frantic for a chance to smooth this over. "Ji Eun, she didn't mean it. I didn't mean to hurt you this way, I really didn't want this to happen. I wanted us to stay as friends--"

"Well, you've done a shitty way of doing things," Ji Eun scoffed. She could already feel the tears streaming down her pale cheeks. She couldn't stop them, it just kept pouring. With the back of her hand, she tried to wipe up most of she could and she smiled at them again wistfully. "Why don't you two go have fun? I shouldn't be holding you two back any longer."

The blood was pounding in her ears.

Ji Eun stepped forward, but only got so far until her throbbing head made her stop abruptly. She reached her hand out to the wall to her left for support, trying to blink away her sudden dizziness. A pair of hands were wrapped around her free arm and was trying to keep her up on her feet. "Ji Eun! Careful, your condition..."

She smacked away Jong Hoon's hands, toppling just a bit. "If you were worried about this happening, you shouldn't have come!" She shouted at him. Regaining her balance, she stood, giving him and his girlfriend a glower that would paralyze Medusa herself to stone. "Don't bother me." And with all her self-control, she left the building out to the blistering cold and walked away... then ran. She didn't care where she'd end up at. She couldn't stay in there any longer. She needed to leave.

She slowed her rapid pace to under a sheltered shop at the side of the road. She sat down on the cold wooden bench under the canopy and let herself cry under the clear night sky.

Her heart was aching.

Why did this have to come back to her? She thought she was over the damn break up. She really did think she moved on and was finally feeling happy about how her life was going for once. But he just had to return and smack the truth to her face.

Pathetic and clingy?

Maybe she was, but she needed to hang on to the few good things she had in her life. She had to or else she would've gone crazy and become lost in this world. She ended up losing her grip on one precious thing at the end anyway.

Maybe they were right. Maybe Ji Eun was pathetic and clingy. Maybe she could've done something about all the bad things that happened in her life rather than cry about it...

You know what she's really craving now? Alcohol. To drink her feelings away and forget about this horrid night.

It works every time. Drink so much until the pain in her heart finally fades away.

But she couldn't bother right now; no way in hell was she going to go back to the party right now when they're still there. The plan to get so plastered to forget the night was thrown out the window. And just to think, she was actually having fun at the party, and it only just got better until they waltzed in.

Ji Eun wrapped her arms around herself, clinging onto her already ice-cold body, and hung her head low, letting the warm tears fall freely from her eyes.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

All Baekhyun wanted to do was to make Ji Eun happy.

He knew that she told him not to come to the birthday party, she had made that very clear for him, but it was all too perfect to pass up. Ji Eun had already given him all the information he needed to come to the party through text, and since his schedule was being so kind lately, he had to swing by.
