I once sailed an ocean with no waves
I once climbed a mountain with no cliffs
I once ran a mile with all the time in the world

I went back to that ocean to find the tide had changed.
I went back to that mountain to find an avalanche had blocked my path.
I went to run a mile again with time snapping at my heels.

My little boat couldn't handle the current
My little arms couldn't lift me over the boulders
My little legs couldn't carry me fast enough

What happened to that water that had once been smooth as glass?
What happened to that mountain with places I could hold?
What happened to all the time I had to run that mile?

They say your first go is never easy
But they forgot to teach us about beginners luck
And what happens after that
