It is 4:30pm right now as my family and I prepare for dinner tonight at Rodneys. It is just me, my mom, and my sister because my step-dad doesn't get off to seven.
As I am finishing up my shower, my sister is brushing her teeth.
"Are you excited?" I ask her.
"Yeah, I guess. He seems like a pretty cool guy." she says before rinsing out her mouth.
"He is" I say before pulling on my shirt. When I leave the bathroom, I go pick out my outfit. I don't feel like dressing up so I pull on a flowy pink dress with a nice sweater and some flip flops. I then put Vaseline on my lips before grabbing my wallet and heading out my room.
Sitting at the table is my sister dressed in jeans and a nice shirt with converse.
"You look nice" I compliment her making her laugh.
"You look nice too" she says. When my mom is ready, it is EXACTLY 5pm. She is dressed in a Gray and blue high-low dress with her hair curled.
"Are y'all ready to go?" she asks us.
"Yes ma'am" we both reply at the same time before heading out.
"Jordan" my mom calls.
"Yes ma'am?" I asks confused.
"You're driving since I don't know where he lives" she says making my whole face light up.
"REALLY?" I exclaim, "YAY!"
As I hop in the drivers seat, my mom warns, "watch your speed and stay focused."
"Yes ma'am" I sigh before pulling out the yard. A few minutes later, I pull into Rodney'S yard. As I park the car, I see Mia running towards me. I hop out the car and pick her up as she screams, "JOJO!"
I laugh at her and say "Hi Mia! Its great to see you again."
"I missed you Jojo" she says pouting. I smile at her cuteness as my family exits the car.
"I missed you too princess" I tell her as we walk towards the house.
"Hi Jordan" his mom greets as I walk through the door.
"Hi mom" I say while giving her a hug. The last time I was here, she told me to call her mom so I do.
"Mom, this is Rodney'S mom, Ms. Thomas, his little sister Mia, and his younger brother Kingston. Mom, this is my mom, Mrs. Thompson, my younger sister Jaya, and of course everyone has already met me" I say causing everyone to laugh.
"It's nice to meet you Ms. Thomas." my mom tells her.
"It is nice to meet you too." Rodney'S mom answers.
After all the introductions, we all sit down to eat dinner. Rodney is to my left at the head of the table. Mia is in my lap. Jaya is to my right with Kingston at hers. He is also at the other head of the table while both mom's sit opposite me and my sister.
Before we dig in to the delicious meal, Ms. Thomas tells us to grab hands for prayer. Rodney intertwines his right hand with my left as he also grabs his mothers hand. Mia turns in my lap as I grab my sisters hand with my right. Mia lays her head on my chest as Kingston takes my sisters other hand in his and intertwines their fingers. He then takes my mom's hand as she takes Rodney'S mom hand in hers before she began to pray.
After dinner, our mom's go off and talk while Kingston tries aimlessly to flirt with my sister. Rodney and I, along with Mia, go to their entertainment room to watch a movie.
Once seated, Mia climbs into my lap and rest her head on my shoulder. Rodney puts in the movie Flushed Away and turns out the lights. As he sits beside me on the couch, he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer. I sigh in complete happiness.
"So, did you enjoy yourself?" he asks me.
"I enjoyed everything" I smile. "How about you?" I ask him in return.
"Anytime you are here, I always do" he says with a smirk.
I laugh at his double meaning and smack his arm as the movie begins. Mia snuggles closer to me as the title displays.
As we watch the movie, I can't help but feel utterly complete.
