Chapter 2: A Chance

 "What is it?"  Erza asked.

"You're not going to like it."  Loren replied softly, hanging onto her injured side.

"What are you talking about?"  Wendy whispered, confused.

Natsu wasn't responding; he was still silent, his eyes covered in shadow as he let his head lean low.  Natsu's mouth was pinched shut, but he was no longer clenching his teeth.  There were no more tears on his cheeks, however the shine that twinkled between his spiky hair at where is eyes were located indicated there were still tears on the corners of his eyes.  

Happy had gone to his side, but had stayed a few feet away to give Natsu some space.  Even if Natsu wanted to be alone, Happy would be there.  They were partners, after all.

Loren glanced at Natsu's back, but then lifted her head to look at Erza, Gray, and Wendy and Carla.  "Vallen was after something specific.  Something individual."

"How do you know that?"  Carla asked.

"To explain that, I guess I have to explain how Lores and I got here in the first place."  Loren replied.

"Seven years ago when you, Fairy Tail, disappeared on Tenrou Island, Lores and I were looking for the dragons as you were.  We had gotten a lead to this land, by a man that was unknown to us.  Of course, at first, Lores and I were suspicious, thinking that the man we had met was a phony.  However, after a few days, Lores and I really didn't have a choice; we didn't have any other lead.  So, taking the chance, we ended up coming here, after discovering the same clues you all found."

"How did you run into Vallen, then?"  Erza asked, her eyes narrowed.

"Lores and I met him here, where there were no dragons.  He explained his plan to dominate the world."

"Was it the same plan you were trying to accomplish?"  Gray asked.

Loren nodded.  "Yes, it was.  We were absolutely against it, because we didn't want the human race to be demolished just for a small chance."

"That's why when Natsu and Lucy were talking about saving everyone, you became confused!"  Happy exclaimed.  "It slightly brought you to your senses, because that was your motive too!"

Loren nodded.  "Yes, I suppose so.  However, as you can see, we were tricked and put under his control.  We had failed."

"How come he didn't end the world then, if he had defeated you?"  Gray asked.

"It's because he needed us for his plan.  If we hadn't been lured there, Vallen wouldn't have had vessels for fighting his true enemies."

"Us."  Wendy replied matter-of-factly, and Loren nodded.

"Yes; it was you, Fairy Tail.  Vallen was waiting for you to come back to the world.  Since Natsu Dragneel, Wendy Marvel, and Gajeel Redfox were all apart of the Fairy Tail guild, Vallen knew that the guild would become a problem in the future.  Since dragon slayers existed there, and all of them were looking for their foster parents, Vallen knew he needed to wait."
