“Ladies and Gentlemen!” Kara grabs a microphone out of her ass and talks into it. “As you all know our fellow Captain Madison Henderson has retired from her chair and left the squad.”
Shit.
I hear some people booing and some laughing.
“Naming me, Kara, the new caption of the squad!” She cheers, raising her arms and standing a pose. The crowd cheers and I here someone cuss behind me.
“Your fuckin kidding me right?” I turn around and swear I see Madison sitting behind me, but as I focus I notice its just a girl similar to her. She had the same fierce glare Madison always portrayed when she was angry.
She got up and began walking down the stairs, a guy followed her, trying to catch up.
What the fuck is going on?
“And since this is a very memorial kind of day I wanted to start off with a bang,” Kara starts walking towards the bleachers where we sat. She goes up to Giselle and points at her. “I’m going to need a volunteer! Giselle?”
Giselle glares at her, uncertain of what was going on. Kara smiles, kindly, and put her hand out for Giselle to take it. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fun, I promise.”
Suddenly, to my surprise, Giselle takes Kara’s hand and they walk back down to the gym court.
“I don’t know if you guys knew this or not, but Giselle here used to be a cheerleader back in middle school.” Kara leads Giselle to the rest of the squad. They pat her back and smile at her. “Lets see if she still knows how to do some cheers, ya?”
Suddenly, the music starts.
They take their formation and I feel myself being booed to either sit down or leave. Frank pulls me down and I follow, staring at what was about to be done.
“What’s going on man?” Frank leans in and asks.
I shake my head. “Don’t know.”
This didn’t seem right.
I watch as Giselle is being lifted up in the air. She has this smile on her face that I’ve never seen before. Like she was born to fit in that crowd. She looks happy. Content. She knows most of the cheers. The crowd is going crazy with amusement, seeing a punk girl do cheers like that. They find it hilarious but she doesn’t see what I see. They’re making a fool of her.
Then, it happens.
The guys throw her in the air and she spins, it looks perfect…until they ‘forget’ to catch her. She falls, flat on her face, and the crowd goes wild. They laugh as she withers on the floor in pain.
I jump up, and run down the bleachers towards her. I pass Kara, whose mouth is open in her fake shock. She doesn’t go towards Giselle though, who’s already crying for someone to help her.
When I get there, I push some of the guys away and kneel down. She looks up at me, her eyes filled with embarrassment and pain. Her nose is bleeding and it looks broken. Her make-up is smeared.
Suddenly, Rinny is beside me, trying to help Giselle up.
“Your okay Giselle, your fine.” She comforts her.
Giselle is crying so hard her face is red.
“Sorry.” I turn to see Kara kneeling down and tilting her head. “Maybe cheerleading isn’t your thing.”
She smiles and it just about sets me off. But Rinny had other plans. She puts her hair back into a quick ponytails and dodges towards Kara, knocking them both on the floor. Kara screams as Rinny grips a handful of her hair and pulls it out. Then, she punches Kara in the face until she’s pulled off of her by adults.
