Chapter 2

(Ash POV)

"You're a girl!" she shouted with her mouth opened in shock.

I frowned and looked down at my chest. "Well, last time I checked, I was."
I looked back at her only to see her mouth still hanging open, while Aly was still in the background laughing her ass off.

I frowned slightly and continued changing. I wonder if this will change things between her and I. I mean, we just met today and I thought we could become great friends and I honestly thought she knew I was a girl, most people know I think?  I folded my school uniform and put it into my locker. I turned to Gabriel who still hadn't changed and appeared to be lost in her thoughts.

"Umm, Gabriel, hurry up or you're going to be late," I waved my hands in front of her face, which seemed to snap her out of her thoughts. She blushed slightly before responding.

"Oh, right, sorry," She reached for her gym clothes.

"No problem, I'll wait for you upstairs," I told her and made my way to the gym.

(At the end of the day Ash's basketball tryouts)

I was sweating bullets while I dribbled the ball dodging some new guy. I made my way to the 3-point line and shot the ball. It swooshed into the net as I ran back to the other side of the court to play defense I started thinking about Gabriel.

Gabriel pretty much seemed to be avoiding me. After gym let out, I saw her walking down the hallway by herself. It's not like she needed my help because I had pretty much showed her the rest of the school and where her last two classes were. I mean, she might not be avoiding me, but then again when she saw me coming down the hall towards her class, she turned the opposite direction from me. Maybe she did not see me? But then again she looked straight at me. Well I think she did. Ugh, this is frustrating. I was so distracted by my thoughts that I didn't notice a guy running straight towards me. I didn't have enough time to move so I ended up sprawled out on the floor. The whistle blew.

"Davis, get up and focus!" Coach yelled before he blew the whistle again. I looked up to see Sean's hand out to help me up. I grabbed his hand and he hauled me up.
"Ash, you need to concentrate! Whatever's on your mind, you need to let it go until the end of try-outs. You have to make the team Point Guard because the new guy is trying for your spot, so get your head in the game!" Sean exclaimed before we got back in positions. For the rest of practice, I pushed Gabriel to the back of my head and concentrated on the try-outs.

The coach finally blew the whistle after three long grueling hours of try-out.

"Alright, guys, the positions will be posted tomorrow on the gym doors. Now go home and take a shower," The coach told us before he went to his office. I was exhausted. I grabbed my duffel bag and basketball.

"That was torture," Sean said while dragging his feet as we walked outside to our trucks.

"I know, but it won't be like that during regular season," I pulled out my keys and pressed the button to unlock my door.

"True, what was up with you today?" he asked eyeing me suspiciously.

"Yea, well, I'm wiped. I'll talk to you later," I said quickly, avoiding the conversation. I jumped into my truck and waved at him as he yelled, "this conversation isn't over yet!" I pulled off and headed home.

I lay on my bed, staring at my ceiling thinking about Gabriel. I thought she would be different than most people, but I guess I was wrong. I guess I did kind of shock her, but still, she didn't have to go out of her way to avoid me all day. Ugh. I grabbed my pillow and screamed in it out of frustration. I continued to do this until I heard a knock on my door.

"Come in!" My voice sounded muffled due to the fact that my face was still in the pillow. I felt my bed dip as they sat on my bed.

"What's up with you? I heard you screaming" My older brother Jesse asked, I took my head out the pillow and looked at him.

"Nothing, just thinking about something," I mumbled, running my hand through my hair; a habit I've had since I was young.

"You mean someone?" He asked, giving me a knowing look

"No, I mean something. Look, I'm tired from practice and it's late, so shoo shoo!" I pulled him up from my bed and pushed him out the door. I walked back to my bed only to hear my door opening again.

"You know I'm always here to talk, right?" He asked with his head half way in the door. I sighed and got into my bed.

"Yeah, I know," I mumbled as he closed the door and I drifted off to sleep.

(Gabriel POV locker room)

"I'll wait for you upstairs," Ash said before turning around and leaving.

I can't believe he's a she. It should be a crime for a girl to look that good. I really thought she was a boy, I was ogling at her all day and I was flirting with her. I mean, Ash is a nice person, shoot; she's practically every girl's dream guy, except she isn't a guy.

I can't deal with this right now, so for today I'm just going to ignore her. Hopefully she won't notice. I just have to get my head wrapped around him, I mean her.
It's not that I'm against her being gay, well, I think she's gay, then again, I'm pretty sure she's gay. Anyway, like I was saying or thinking, I don't have anything against gay people, it's just I've never been around a gay girl before so it's kind of awkward.

I quickly changed into my gym uniform and headed out sitting on the opposite side of Ash and Aly.

After gym, things got pretty awkward. After I changed I ran out of the locker room and toward my next class, ignoring Ash as she called out my name. That was what I pretty much did for the rest of the day. At the end of the day, I saw Ash a couple of feet away from the class I just left. I looked at her and she smiled, but I quickly turned away and went the opposite direction heading towards the school's exit. I was making my way to my car when I heard my name being shouted.

"Gabriel, wait!" I turned around to see Declan, a boy who sat next to me in my physics class. He was actually pretty cute, with his blonde shaggy hair and light blue eyes. I waited as he ran up to me.

"I wanted to know if you'd like to hang out some time?" He asked shyly, shifting from one foot to the other. Aw, he's so cute. I smiled.

"I don't really know you, it is my first day here you know?" I watched as he blushed slightly.

"No, no, we can just hang out as friends. You know, just two friends hanging together, getting to know each other," He spoke nervously.

"Okay, that's sound fine," I nodded at him. What the hell I had to make friends at some point

"Oh, well, here is my number," He took out a piece of paper and scribbled down his number before handing it to me. I took the paper and put it in my pocket.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye. Call me anytime you need something" He left before I could reply. I shrugged my shoulders and got into my car, thinking about Ash. I hope she didn't notice me avoiding her today. I know it was kind of rude, but I don't know how to approach this. I hope she wasn't offended by it. I pulled into my driveway, parked my car and went into my house.

"Mom, dad, I'm home!" I call out, not getting a response. I went into the kitchen spotting a note on the fridge

Gabriel,

Your mother and I went on a business trip. Sorry we couldn't tell you earlier, we won't be back for two weeks. There is some cash in the safe and we also added more money on your card.

     Love

Mom and Dad

P.s. your sister is staying with your Aunt until we get back

We love you.

I sighed, typical parents. The whole point of us moving here was so they could be closer to their company. I trudged upstairs and went straight to bed.
