Alice

Now that I have had time off from work and away from my parents, I have to finally face them. I didn't tell my parents that I would be going to their house today. My parents don't usually work on the weekends so this is the perfect time to go to the house. When I woke up today I didn't think I was ready for this but I had to rip the bandaid away and fast. I threw on some clothes and headed outside. The sun is about to peek behind the mountains, the sky is so beautiful, shades of dark blue, oranges, and hues of pink.

The car ride to their house was silent. Their house. Not that long ago I was living there, calling it my house where I grew up. Now it is not my house. I arrived at the house. I turned off the ignition and waited for a while to slow down my rising heart rate. I am early so of course the house lights are all off and no one is probably awake yet.

Breath Alice everything will be fine.

Breath in.

Exhale.

Breath in.

Exhale.

Here goes nothing

Here goes nothing. I exited the car and walked to the front door. I quietly slid the key and unlocked the door. I made my way into the kitchen. This is the first place they would come after waking up and making a pot of coffee. I sat on one of the barstools and made myself a cup of coffee. I checked my watch on my wrist, it's 6:58am. The morning already felt as if I had been here for hours. As I finished my first cup of coffee my dad walked in his royal blue pajamas and black slippers. He rubbed his eyes, the light adjusted his vision. He turned on the light in the kitchen and looked up to me.

"Alice," he breathed out and quickly walked to me, locking me into his arms. "I am sorry. I am so sorry. I just wanted to get over it. If I did it later I know I wouldn't want to let you go. Please. Please forgive me." His voice cracks. He took my hands and planted a small kiss. I embraced him and took a deep inhale of his scent. I didn't want to let him go. A single tear fell down my face and disappeared into his rob. There was a moment of silence between us. It felt good to be in his arms again as if nothing happened. I felt protected with him as his little girl again. Off from the distance there were small foot scuffles that came down the stairs.

"Alice. Is that you?" My mom says behind me. I turn over and see my mom's eyes are bloodshot red as she looks as if she had been crying for a really long time. I nod yes. "Oh Alice. I don't know how we all got to this point without talking to you." She falls to the kitchen floor. I walk over to her picking her up. We all walked into the living room. Sitting on the sofa where they broke the news that I was being arranged to marry james. I sit in between mom and dad.
