Chapter 2
“You might want to make this fast, I have some new students that I have to show around the school.” I said as I walked into Mr. Manson’s office.
“Well frankly I don’t think you were going to show them around. I think you were going to skip school,” Mr. Manson exclaimed.
“How dare you say that?! I was just being a good citizen and helping out fellow classmates. New classmate might I add,” I argued.
“Uh huh, just like the time you joined Student Council just to make Taco Mondays?” He asked, “or what about the time…”
“Hey, everyone likes tacos and FWI it was Taco Tuesday! Haha Taco Mondays… don’t be ridiculous. Well it made since that Taco Belle would make Taco Tuesdays,” I smiled, ah that was a good one I was proud of myself for that one.
“Sit Belle,” I sat and I saw in his eyes that I was going to get in a little trouble, but to be honest I didn’t care. I could probably get out of it whatever it is. I was wrong. “Belle, you can either show the new kids around or you can go back to class and have homework, tonight.”
I raised my eyebrow,” Wait, so if I show the new kids around, I don’t have to do homework?” I asked.
“Correct,” He answered, “so what’s it going to be Miss. Daniels?”
“I guess I can go show the new kids around for a little while,” I was defeated.
“Good choice,” he mumbled and looked at the TV on the wall in the corner of the room with the feed from the video cameras, “looks like they are in the freshman hallway have fun.” He said smiling, as I got up and walked out of the office heading toward the freshman hallway. I now knew what defeat smelled like… it smelled like Mr. Manson’s onion breath.
As I walked down the hallway Echo noticed me and of course she had something to say, she always has something to say.
“So what’s your punishment? To show the poor new kids around, huh? You know what you’re a bully, you really are. I thought maybe I could get through to you one of these day, but right now I just realized I can’t. I don’t think anyone can.” She was right and who was I to argue with that.
“So do you want to take half and I’ll take the rest?” I asked. She rolled her eyes thinking I didn’t hear her but I did. I just didn’t want to say she was right not here, not now.
“Fine you can take Alexis, Fallon, Theron, and Beau; I’ll take Jace, Bambi, Tavis, and Thomas,” she looked at me and must of saw that I was confused and then said, “you can take the Juniors and Seniors and I’ll take the Freshman and Sophomore, okay.” You know I was confused, but baby talk, really? Not necessary.
“Alright,” I said smiling, “juniors and seniors come with me!” I squealed and backed down the hallway toward the senior building.
We stopped at the end of the hallway in the senior building and I ask, “Seniors, who is your study hall? It’s should be on your schedules.”
“It says I have Mr. Miller,” Alexis answered. I saw Beau out of the corner of my eyes staring at me until I turned to look at him.
“Mrs. Green,” Beau looked up from his schedule after he told me his advisory teacher. His eyes hypnotized me. I stared for what seemed for hours, but really only seconds. The bell rang and snapped me out of it and we moved out of the way of the other students.
When all the students were in or on their way to their next period, we found the seniors lockers.
“Ummm… M143… is right here,” I was a little slow on the lockers, but who knows where all the lockers are in this school, not me.
“And yours is…” I walked across the hall and followed the lockers to where they end, “Here you go.”
After showing the seniors their classrooms and then having to do it all over again for the juniors was tiring. I was glad it was finally lunch time.
“Alright, well to get food you stay in this line and grab what you want. Then, drinks are over there by the dorky kid in his grandfather’s sweater. Got it.” I smiled so big they knew it was plastic and talked so fast I knew they didn’t get what I was saying, but I didn’t want to repeat myself.
I got a water and went to go sit with my “friends” when Mr. Manson grabbed my arm and led me to the new kids table where Echo was sitting too.
“I think you lost one, Echo,” Mr. Manson chuckled.
“Ha-ha, that’s good one Mr. Manson!” I rolled my eyes and plopped down in the seat.
When he finally walked away Echo tried to get every living detail about the new kids out of them. Asking questions like “What’s your favorite color?” or “Do you have pets? If so what are their names?”
When lunch was over everyone went to the gym for an assembly. I knew it was probably about something stupid like dances or talent shows. Now that I think about it, I did see one poster about this one thing. But who knows what it was about.
Our seating was uncomfortable because I much rather be sitting with my “friends” not the new kids ( we sat: Alexis, Fallon, Echo, Jace, Tavis, Beau, Bambi, Thomas, Theron, and then me). I got the feeling Theron either didn’t like me or hated my guts. I don’t get how he can “dislike” me because I have been very nice person, to him. So, with the discomfort of him clearly showing that he has a problem with me, I started some small talk.
“So… How is your day so far?” I gave Theron a small smile that I thought would look convincing, but I guess I was wrong because all he did was stare at me blankly. “Ouch.”
“Theron… doesn’t that mean eagle or something?” I asked hoping he might talk to me.
His head turn in the sharpest movements that were very frightening and intimidating. “You want to know what Theron means… It means hunter!” His words were forced and frightening they made my body jump and tense up, but his voice didn’t seem frightening just his words. His voice was like chocolate, warm and yummy.
“Oh well I was close.” I mumbled and I saw him roll his eyes, but with that I saw him smile. In that moment I felt that maybe he didn’t hate me maybe he’s cool and I just needed to try harder.
