AN: Two One Shots in a row?! In the same week?! Aren't you little shits lucky.

One Shot 9

This is never what he wanted. He never wanted for you to have to be at risk because of him. But you wouldn't have it any other way.

About 4 months ago, when the weather had just begun to cool off, a highly trained team broke into your apartment in the middle of the night. You were asleep, cuddled up with your boyfriend, and completely unaware of the oncoming threat.

You were roused into consciousness by Bucky, after the intruders had woken him by poking him with their guns. He told them to let you go, but they would not relent. When they refused to let you go free, he turned to you and whispered, "don't look"

You closed your eyes and held your breath, you heard the sounds of a very brief struggle and then awful snapping of bone. Shuttering you dropped your head down and covered your face.

The sounds of Bucky fighting off the other two agents continued, and you dropped down onto the floor. You rolled under the bed, trying to avoid injury.

Finally the last sound of a neck being snapped rang out and the body fell limply to the floor. You could hear his heavy breathing, as he leaned against the wall and sank to the floor.

He put his head in his hands, his eyes flooded with tears. This wasn't supposed to happen. You were supposed to be safe. He put your in danger.

You crawled out from under the bed, and went to him. Carefully, you dipped your hands under his and brought his face up. He met your soft gaze with intense, eyes.

Without a word you climbed into his lap, and straddled his hips gently placing your weight on his thighs. Your arms closed around him, locking him in your loving embrace.

He latched onto you like a child and wept, looking out into the room scattered with the bodies of the intruders.

"I can't let these people near you (y/n). I have to go," he said drawing away from you. "I'm sorry,"

Before he could get up, you pushed his against the wall and said, "Don't you leave me, James Barnes,"

"I have to. I can't let these people hurt you,"

"It's too late Bucky, they know my name. They know my face. If you leave me, they'll just come find me and use me to hurt you. Don't give them that chance,"

"Oh god. It's all my fault...." He sobbed "you don't deserve this. You deserve so much better,"

"I don't want to hear those words come out of you mouth again, you hear me?" You demanded

He said nothing, only held you closer and took deep breaths.

"Count to 5," you whispered.

"1," he whispered back "My name is James Barnes," he took a deep breath.

"2. I am from Brooklyn, New York,"

"3. I am a war veteran,"

"4. I am a hero,"

"5. I deserve to have love,"

"Good job," you whispered kissing his forehead.

"Now you," he prompted.

"Okay,"

"1. My name is (Y/n) (y/l/n),"

"2. I am from (home town)"

"3. I am a (job)"

"4. I am a survivor,"

"5. I deserve to have love,"

But that was four  months ago. Since then we've been on the run from the ever increasing hydra agents.

Tonight we are hunkered down in a run down cabin in the back woods of one of the eastern states. Even I'm not quite sure where we are... Maybe Virginia.

It's deathly cold outside, and the wind is howling like a banshee. We sit in the corner farthest away from the windows, and huddle together for warmth.

"I-I'm s-s-sorry," he whispers.

"F-f-for what,"

"Th-th-this..."

"N-no. I'm w-w-with you. It's worth it-t-t," my teeth chatted involuntarily.

"B-but-"

"What's our n-n-number f-f-five?" You prompt sternly.

"I deserve to have love,"

"And I love you. I'll st-stay with you no m-matter what,"

"God knows, I must have d-done something pretty sp-special to de-deserve you," he laughed, snuggling just a tiny bit closer.
