Chapter Twenty-Nine: Heat (EDITED)

Start from the beginning

"Can you please get my towel?" I asked Shane as I poked my head out of the shower.

"Uh, I don't know," he said as he looked at my towel which was draped over the side of the bathtub. "It's so far and I don't want to leave you." I narrowed my eyes at him before I huffed.

"Fine," I said as I completely climbed out of the shower, catching Shane off guard, and dragged him over to my towel before I wrapped it around my body as fast as I could with one hand. When I looked at him, his face still held a trace of shock, causing me to smirk before I dragged him with me over to the sink and we brushed our teeth. "You need to take a shower, you stink," I said as I playfully crinkled my nose.

"I can't let go of you. I don't want you to feel that pain." Shane said as he shook his head.

"I'll he fine," I assured him. "Just hurry up, okay?" Shane looked at me for a moment before he reluctantly nodded and let go of me. The pain came back and hit me like a truck, but I bit my lip to keep the scream that threatened to escape at bay.

I hurried out of the bathroom and into the closet where I quickly threw on a pair of Shane's sweatpants, a gray t-shirt with my black bra and underwear underneath. Another less intense wave of pain washed over me as Shane hurried out of the bathroom with a towel hanging around his waist. As soon as his eyes landed on me, he hurried over and wrapped me in a hug and a sigh escaped my lips and the pain once again left. "Stupid human medicine," he grumbled as he once again slid his hand into my own and led me back into the closet were he quickly threw on some boxers and a pair of sweatpants that matched the ones I was wearing.

"You hungry?" Shane asked as we walked out of the closet. My eyes darted to the digital clock that rested on the nightstand and it read 8:26 pm. Dang, we slept for a long time. I nodded and he carried me into the kitchen and set me on the counter before he quickly got to work on a masterpiece, the pain returning a bit more fierce since his skin wasn't touching mine.

"Where are Jess, Aiden, Greg, Zac, and Chris?" I asked as yummy smelling aroma filled the air.

"Aiden, Greg, and Chris are still at your old pack and Jess is taking care of Zac in his room." Shane explained and I nodded even though I knew he couldn't see it.

"Can I see them?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yeah, but only if I am with you. Like I said, a lot of people can smell you and I don't want you wandering around the Pack House by yourself,"

I rolled my eyes at his over protectiveness before I stuck my tongue out at the back of Shane's head. "I suggest you put that tongue back in your mouth, Ariel," Shane said never looking away from the food. I could practically hear the smile in his voice.

My jaw no doubtfully fell to the ground as I stared him "H-How d-did you-"

"A magician never reveals his secrets," he smirked, causing me to roll my eyes before I hopped off the counter. "Where are you going?" Shane asked as soon as my feet touched the ground. "Relax, I'm just getting some water," I said as I walked over to the refrigerator with a glass in hand. Shane continued to cook, but I could see him sneak a glance my way every now and then like he was afraid that the water was going to kidnap me or something.

After I'd finished my water I walked over to Shane who was still hard at work and wrapped my arms around his waist and rested my chin on his shoulder, causing the pain to retreat. I stayed and watched as Shane's hands moved like lightening as he stirred the Alfredo sauce and cut the chicken into small chunks.

"Will you teach me to cook one day?" I questioned, still mesmerized by his handiwork.

"Of course," he said before he kissed my forehead, sending sparks through my body. "Anything for you, Little One."

I smiled as I continued to watch Shane turn ingredients into brilliant masterpieces. After a while standing there with Shane, he was finished with our meal; chicken Alfredo pasta with a side salad. I helped him put the food in their respective plates and bowls before we placed them on the table. This time Shane sat down next to me instead of across from me so that our skin could be touching as much as possible. We sat together and ate in comfortable silence, each lost in our own worlds. I still couldn't get the guilt that was gnawing at me with an intense hunger to go away, but since I'd talked to Shane last night, it's hunger had gotten smaller.

Suddenly, a pain cut through my abdomen like a knife, causing a whimper to escape my lips as I doubled over, dropping the fork that had been between my fingers and falling onto all fours in the process. "Ariel, what's wrong?" Shane asked, concern lacing his voice as he placed a hand on my back, numbing the pain a notch, but still not enough for me to straighten out. I had to bite my lip to keep a scream from coming out as another wave of pain washed over me.

"Sh-Shane," I stammered as tears gathered in my eyes. "It's st-starting. H-Help me."

Shane nodded before he scooped me up in his strong arms and hurried me upstairs into our room and he gently set me on the bed before his lips crashed onto mine, causing to pain to dull once more.

My hands cupped his cheeks as he held me closer. I felt a hurricane of feelings move between Shane and I as the kiss deepened.

I slid my hands from his cheeks to his hair, his soft locks feeling great against my fingers. As our bodies became closer, my sweatshirt started riding up. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a few of my many bruises, causing me to feel self conscious as I pulled away and grimaced. I was about to pull my shirt back down when Shane's lips came into contact with one of my bruises, sending addictive sparks throughout my body. I held his head were it was and he continued kissing the bruises all over my stomach. Suddenly, I felt a warm fuzzy feeling spread throughout my body and once I looked down, I saw my bruises slowly start fading away.

My eyebrows pulled together in confusion before I realized what was happening.

Mates can heal each other. Shane's words rang in my head and a smile rested on my lips. As soon as he was finished, I grabbed him and pulled him into a kiss, suddenly feeling confident.

For a brief moment in time I forgot all about my heat and what had happened in the past few days and basked in everything that was this kiss.
***************

I know it's not the best, but there is a reason that I didn't write a full heat scene like most werewolf writers because I'm not about that life, so if that's what you were looking forward to, I'm sorry. There are other books you can look in for that.

Anyway, if you liked this chapter don't forget to comment, vote, and fan!
