One year before the accident

I was on top the world. My adrenaline was pumping. The wind rushed around me, sending my long, fiery hair flickering in front of my face. I could see the entire city laid out before me. I was taller than the tallest tower. The cars on the streets drove around, unaware I was watching from the highest summit, a summit deemed impossible to climb. I had climbed it. "I did it." I whispered at first, in awe of my accomplishment. "I DID IT!" My voice echoed through the night. All the years spent training had paid off. I had climbed Montem Diablo. The white flagged flickered behind be, firmly planted in the tough ground. It was supposed to symbolize the mountain giving in to humanity. Stitched on the bottom in tiny black silk my name was sewn. Climbed by Ashley Delvin. I gazed at it with pride. "Now the world knows." I whispered, a single tear running down my cheek. "Now the world knows Ashley Delvin is not a quitter."
