For a moment Richard wished that time would stop for them.  Just him and Dawn in his arms, both of their hearts beating in time with the rhythm of the raindrops outside. But then, he heard Dawn’s voice in his head.

“This is not 20 years ago, Richard. It’s different now.”

“Th-thanks.” He had reluctantly let go of Dawn.

“Are you sure? Parang nanginginig ka pa eh,” Dawn said, her voice filled with concern.

“No, I’m totally okay na.  Effective ang yakapsule mo noh,” he said with a matching smile.

“Sira ka talaga!” She couldn’t help but laugh.

And he couldn’t help but smile. It was a satisfying feeling that he was able to make her laugh.

“Teka nga,” Dawn said abruptly.

“Why?”

“Trespassing ka ah! Pwede kitang kasuhan!”

“Ano?! Uy Dawn wag naman!”

“Hahahaha ba’t parang natakot ka? Did you think I was serious?” she asked, still laughing.

Actually Dawn needed to do something, and that was to laugh, just to distract herself from staring at the man in front of him.  This “wet look” undeniably suits him, Dawn admitted to herself.

“Mahirap na wala akong pampiyansa noh. You know, nagse-save ng money for campaign...” his voice trailed off.

Dawn avoided his gaze. “Oo nga noh magiging busy ka na. At siyempre, ako rin..”

“Huh? Bakit? Ikakampanya mo ako?” he teased.

“Hahaha! Sira. Hindi ikaw,” she said. She laughed, but this time, quite forced.  Hindi niya alam pero parang may sadness siya na naramdaman.  Bakit?  Because if he wins, he will concentrate on his responsibility to the people na.  Goodbye show business. Goodbye Dawn.  Sa reel world na nga lang sila nagkakasama eh.  She’ll miss him ‘pag nagkataon.

“Hahaha.” Chard laughed, siyempre forced din. HINDI IKAW.  Those two short words pierced him.  It would have been him she’d campaign for. Would have been, could have been, and might have been. It was always like that for them now. They had the chance, but that chance had gone to waste.

“Uhm.” Dawn decided to break the silence. “I’ll go get my phone muna ha.”

“Why?”

“Tatawagan ko ang abogado ko! Hahahahah!” She turned and ran.

“Hoy ‘wag! Hahahaha!” Richard chased after her.  Yes, they were like kids but he didn’t care. He could be anyone when he was with her.

Dawn reached her room and grabbed for her phone.  But Chard was too quick for her.

“Ano ba! Hahahaha! Akin na yan!” Dawn yelled while laughing.

“Nope.”

“Akin na sabi eh!  Hahahaha!”
