“I have this planned out,” I say, looking towards the locker room. “Kara’s texting the squad. Just stay here while I change.”
Courtney sighed. “Madison, I love how you don’t like backing down, but this is our senior year! Forget it, lets keep it drama free.”
I planned that before I showed up to school. Sometimes though, plans fail. Plus, I’m not about to let this girl think she has some kind of rank over my squad. They keep up their reputation, so why can’t we? Anyways, I’m going to keep it casual. No blood will be spilled in these walls…or whatever.
I grinned. “I don’t think so.”
So when I’m in the locker room, I ignore Giselle. She makes her comments and I smile and put back on my uniform. When the bell rings I let her walk out first. I follow behind her and one by one my squad members catch up with me. We don’t talk, we just walk. By that time everyone is noticing that something is about to go down. They begin talking and some even begin to take out their phones just incase you tube needed some new videos.
Giselle is already caught up to her friends. Ray is there, looking through his folder and yawning. I so badly want to melt, but this isn’t a melting situation.
This was my job. I had to stand up for those who were being bullied within my squad. Courtney didn’t want me to but she knew deep down inside she had to let me go on with it. Its just the rules of being captain. Its my responsibility to keep them all in a straight line no matter how much most of them annoyed me.
One of Giselle’s friends tell her I’m walking up to her. She quickly turns and throws her backpack to the ground, ready to fight. Please, I just dry cleaned this uniform, I am NOT getting it dirty.
“I’m not here to fight you,” I grin and cross my arms.
“That’s how its going to end anyways,” Giselle gets in my face, yet again. “Throw the first punch bitch.”
She’s starting to really piss me off with this name calling thing.
“What the hell did I ever do to you?” I raise my hand and hold it out to put space between us. “I swear, you never liked me, ok fine, can I get a reason?”
She looks at my hand as if its dirt and takes a step back. “I don’t like you. Your fake. Look at you.”
“Whatever,” I smile at her. “Your poor excuses are embarrassing. Anyways, next time you decide to come up to one of my squad members while she’s alone and bring your friends to try and scare her, remember something,” I take a small step towards her and raise my chin. “Right now, your living an ok high school life. You have a couple of friends, a nice…streak of luck I suppose, but know that I can make your life a living hell.”
The crowd begins to “ooooh” us and its makes me feel this small sense of accomplishment that I’ll probably hate later.
“I’m not afraid of you.” She declared to the whole crowd.
“You should be,” Kara says from behind me. “You obviously don’t know who your fucking with.”
A couple of kids cheer Kara on and she’s loving the spotlight.
I look at Ray for a split second because I can see him creeping up behind Giselle. He grabs her arm and pulls her back, glaring at me the whole time. To be honest, I’m trying to prepare myself for the insults he’s going to throw at me. Things I’ll probably cry about later when I’m alone in the bathroom stall. It wont be a sob cry though, just an ego stomped on with a few tears and fixable smeared makeup kind of cry.
I have other things to cry about full on.
“Its real pathetic how you think your so tough Madison,” Rays begins his rants. We stare at each other. I seriously want to look away but it doesn’t work like that. “You think your something but your just a spoiled little shit.”
Ouch….ok, its fine, don’t flinch…don’t flinch…DO NOT FLINCH.
“I mean look at you,” His voice raises and he gestures his arms towards me. “Fake hair, fake face, fake everything! And all of you idiots think she’s so fuckin great! She’s one of the biggest dumbasses this school has to offer!”
I hear a few snickers. I clench my fist. By then I flinched but fuck it.
He hates me already.
“I’m not the one who can’t read,” I say to him. “What level of math are you on again? Like first grade? Special Ed classes just couldn’t help right?”
Everyone laughs and I feel like running off in shame.
There isn’t anything funny about special kids. Yet I made the joke and everyone’s loving it.
Ray keeps his stare on me but he isn’t grinning and his glare fades.
One thing people never talk about with Ray is his poor education skills. Most guys who bring it up end up on the floor with a bloody something. If I was a guy I’m almost positive Ray would of tossed me against the wall. He was so much stronger looking than before. I noticed his muscles tightening. His fist were clenched and I realized mine were still too. I loosened my grip and straightened myself out.
“Well,” I keep up the dirty work. I look up at him again and smile. “I guess we know who the real dumbass is now.”
The crowd begins cheering for me, like I won a battle against the bully. I step to the side and look at Giselle. She looks at Ray then at me. I wink at her, “Just remember what I said hun.”
With that I walk off and continue on with my day.
My whole existence is one shattered mirror.
And they love it.
