Chapter 5

Nyla

"Leave. Leave now." I yelled as he walked in the door. I just felt a rush of emotions come over me as he stood by the door but the one that showed the most was anger. How could he do this to me, he left and did the same thing my parents did. What was his reason, was I not a good wife? Was I doing something wrong? Was he not ready to start a family yet? I just don't understand why things like this always happen to me. I was getting ready to start yelling at him again till I seen Brittney run down the stairs with Aaron. When she seen Jerome she ran to him and jumped in his arms. He smiled widely at her and she did the same. "Daddy, you came." Brit said to him. "Yah princess, just like I promised." He said to her and it all clicked in my head. It wasn't a dream Brittney was having, she was really seeing Jerome but I don't know how. My door opened again and I seen Craig walk in. He looked like he been crying himself and he barely ever cries so I could only see what I was in store for. Jerome was talking to her and all I could see was how happy Brit was to see her father. I know for sure I can't ruin that bond despite my feelings even though it's going to take me along time to forgive him. He was there for me through a lot of things in my life and I will always love him. He brought me my first child and he'll always have a place in my heart cause we was once in love. Since he's still alive, that means legally I'm still married to him but that's going to change real quick. I heard Aj getting fussy which then made Arie fussy. They both started crying and I got up and picked them both up bouncing them. "Look I got them, you need to go talk to Jerome say what you got to say cause I can tell your upset." August said standing beside me. I looked at him and nodded. "Okay." I gave him the twins and then walked over to Britt, Jerome and Craig. "Brit you can talk to your father later, you and Aaron go outside with everyone else." I told her. "Okay mommy." Jerome put her down and she ran off with Aaron. "Let's go." I said to him and Craig. We walked outside to the small patio that was for the living room. "Nyla let me start out by apologizing to you. Wether he was dead or not I was wrong for taking my anger and frustration out on you. I should have never called you out your name and I most definitely shouldn't have blamed you for that shit. I know it took you a long time just to stop blaming yourself and now I realize that I was a set back in that process so I'm truly sorry from the bottom of my heart. Now if you don't accept it I understand and I'm not saying you have to but I would like it if you would." Craig said to me and I smiled at him. "Yah I accept it." "So we cool?" I nodded. "Alright well I'll be in your kitchen while y'all handle that." He said before leaving causing me to giggle. I just stared at Jerome and he did the same. "Why did you do it?" I said breaking the silence and he sighed. "Well remember a while back when I told you I had a violent past?" I nodded. "Well in that past I was in a gang or whatever. I had so much power over them niggas that some of them started putting me on they kill list. That's why I chose to go to school in New York. They lost track of me while we was there but the second they found out I was back and had a family, you and Brittney was on that list as well. I ain't want y'all to die for some stupid shit I did cause I love y'all. They was planning on killing y'all first and I couldn't have that. So after talking it over with my parents I made a decision to leave. I wasn't going to tell you cause I knew you was going to try and stop me and say we could handle it together but that would have just ended in all 3 of us being dead. It was a small set back cause of me being in the hospital but after talking to the doctor I had him go out and tell y'all I was gone while I left and handled the streets. Now that everything is good and I know for sure everything is safe I decided to come back. I was in Brazil and I saw y'all so one day I followed you, Brittney and whosever babies you had back to this house and I been seeing her every night since then. When I heard you was back here, I thought it was the perfect time to finally come clean to everyone and that's what I'm doing." I was just trying to take in everything he said but it was kind of hard. I'm not mad anymore but I just wish he would have told me. I just nodded cause I didn't know exactly what to say. "Look I kn-" "sorry to interrupt but where them food can things for the twins?" August came out and asked. "Um some is in the fridge and some in the pantry. Don't give Arie nothing with apples or strawberries or your changing her diaper for the next 3 days and don't give Aj anything with peas in it." I told him and he laughed. "Ight I got you." He walked back inside and I looked at Jerome. "Whose kids are those?" He asked me. "Mine and their father is August before you ask." He nodded slowly. "But like I was saying before, I know you probably not going to trust me for a long time but I just want to be apart of my daughters life. I can see you and August got a little thing going on and I most definitely won't get in the way of that. Shit, y'all get married I'll give yo ass away with your father." He said causing me to chuckle. "I know our marriage was short and we argued a lot after Brittney was born but I want better for you. It's going to be hard cause I'm still in love with you but I know your happy somewhere else. We can just be coparents and work out arrangements for both of us regarding her another time." I nodded, it was another silence between us. "We have to get a divorce." We both said in unison. "Well since we both agree, I know somebody that can have us divorced in less than a week and also under the radar." I told him and he nodded. "What's they names?" He asked. "Oh um Arielle and August." He nodded. "Wasn't that one of the names you was going to choose to name Brit?" I nodded. "I see you still like that name." I chuckled a little and nodded. I still remember how I came up with that name in the first place. I think I was like 6 months pregnant with Brittney and me and Jerome was having sex and it popped up in my mind. So I stopped what we was doing just to write the name down and he was a little salty at the time. "Look Imma just let you know that I'm seeing somebody." I nodded. "Y'all serious?" "We getting there." "Do you love her?" I asked him and he chuckled. "Nah not yet." "How long you known her?" "I known her twelve years but we been together like 9 months or so." I nodded. "Is she's going to be around our daughter then I want to meet her. What's her name anyway?" "Jasmine." That name seemed very familiar to me, from like a few years ago but I guess I'll find out when I meet her. "Alright." We both went inside and he sat down on the opposite couch with Jamal and Travis. August was sitting beside me feeding the twins and I rolled my eyes a little. Arielle was just staring deep in August eyes. Both of my daughters are daddies girls and I just have my baby Aj. I took Aj from him and bounced him in my lap cause I didn't think August fed him but I got proved wrong. I got throw up all over my shirt and stomach. August sat there laughing and I was mad, I actually liked this shirt. "You keep laughing, watch and wait till it happens to you." I said taking Aj with me into the bathroom. I cleaned the both of us up and changed into a tank top I had in this bathroom. There was only pampers in this bathroom so after cleaning Aj I just put that on him and that's it. I walked out the bathroom and sat him on the couch going to the Landry room putting the stuff in there. I went back sitting down with Aj on my lap. Craig came in and sat down with a whole bunch of food. "Why you had to get so much, you ain't got no food at your house?" I asked. "Nah I do but my girl ain't home and she ain't cook last night so I ain't feel like making nothing." I shook my head. I seen Brittney run in the living room with Callie and Aaron. They looked so happy but they not bout to be running all over my house. "What y'all running for?" I asked stopping them. They looked at each other then turned around looking scared. "monster is coming." Aaron said to me. "What monster?" I asked. "Daddy." Callie said and they all screamed when Travis walked in causing me to laugh. "He's not going to do anything." I told them and they shook they head standing behind me cause Travis was directly in front of me. "Yes, uncle said he going to pick us and throw us out space." Brit said causing me to laugh. She was pretty smart for a two year old so I hope she leaves high school with honors like I did but I want her to go to college as well, I want all my children to. "Travis leave them alone." I told him laughing a little. "Go make me some food then." "Okay." I told him and he walked away. "Thank you." They all said and I smiled. I sat them on the couch and turned on the tv to Nick Jr.. Aj and Arie was in their play pen playing with toys and each other. Mya, Kay and Chay who all have gotten so big came inside as well. I decided to go in the kitchen and made everyone lunch since it was 3pm. I made burgers and fries cause I didn't feel like doing anything else. At first I was only going to make sandwiches but I ain't have time for complaining adults. I sat 6 kids plates at the table and then put 7 adult plates on a tray. I called the kids into the kitchen and let them eat watching tv. I gave the 3 smaller ones some juice and let the older ones get what they want since they are picky. I brought the tray in the living room and sat it on one of my tables. "You want something to drink get it yourself. You make a mess, you clean it up. Oh and wash your own dishes." I said before picking up the twins and taking them to their room for a nap. I let them get a bottle and some food before burping them and putting them to sleep. I went downstairs and noticed that Callie, Brit and Aaron was done so I was going to let them take a nap as well cause it's to loud with all these kids. "Come on Callie, Aaron and Brittney." They all looked from the tv and at me before getting up. I took them all to Britney's room since she has three beds in there. I washed all of them and since they was already tired it made it easier for me to get them to sleep. I let Callie sleep on the top bunk since she's not afraid of heights and I know she won't fall, Brittney on the bottem buck and Aaron was in the separate bed. I closed the blinds since it brought a lot of light in the room then walked out closing the door. I went back to the kitchen and washed all of the kids dishes, cleaning up some stuff. This is like a day to day process for me and sometimes it's tiring. Morgan was telling me about this school Aaron goes to Monday through Friday and after next week im most defiantly enrolling Brittney. But for the twins im going to wait till they turn one. "Auntie what room can we go in cause they are being loud?" Chay said to me with Kay and Mya beside her. I let them use the guest bedroom beside my room cause I had a lot of cleaning from last night to do in there. I started cleaning when I was interrupted by someone clearing their throat. I looked at the door and seen August standing there. "You look stressed, come to daddy and tell him what's wrong." He said closing the door and sitting on my bed. I giggled a little but shook my head. "I'm fine." I said continuing what I was doing but he got up and stopped me. "Tell daddy what's wrong." He said picking me up sitting us on my bed. "Always being sexual." I said and he shrugged. I was on his lap playing in his hair as he had his arms around my waist and his head on my shoulder. "Is it about Jerome?" He asked and I just shrugged. "Do you not know or you don't want to talk about it?" He asked. "Both." He nodded. "Ight, well I'm here to listen if you need me but stop doing all this cleaning your house already clean. You wanna do some real cleaning go over to my place." He said and I laughed. "Get a maid." "Why should I when I got myself a milf." I frowned. "Nigga I ain't no fucking milf so get that word out of your vocabulary when it comes to me." He smiled. "Thought u said u don't curse no more." I stuck my middle finger up at him as he laughed walking out. I continued cleaning till I was done and checked on Brittney and them. They was still sleep and when I went to the room with Kay, Mya and chay they was knocked out as well. The twins was also sleep so I walked downstairs and to the living room and they was having a good ass time but being loud ass hell in my house. Just thinking bout my life right now is stressing me out which is causing me to curse again. I haven't done this in over two years but I'm stressed the hell out and need it very badly. I went in the draw where I used to keep my blunts and opened it to my new supply. I got one and also a lighter sitting down. "Well damn, how hard is life?" Travis said looking at Jamal. "Well it must me harder than August dick every time Nyla comes in the room." Jamal replied causing me to laugh. "Nigga shut the fuck up." August said as I lit the blunt. I took a pull from it and felt automatically relaxed. Even though I coughed a little cause I'm still getting used to it again, I still am relaxed. "So you ain't gonna even share, that's dead rude." Craig said and I looked at him and shrugged. "Get your own." I said and of course every single one of them got up and got them self a blunt. Chandra and Tima walked outside to do whatever. "Yo pass me that lighter." Travis said and I threw it to him. "What happened to your arm?" Craig asked taking a pull from his blunt. "Life." I simply said. "So since you high and answering people now. Why was August fighting homeboy from the airport and I would also like to know why he had such a tight grip on my little sister that she marked up?" Travis asked and he looked relaxed but angry at the same time. "Who you talking bout? Dominic?" Jerome asked Travis which caused me to furrow my brow, how he know that. "I think that was the nigga name, was it Nyla?" I nodded. "Oh well then you ain't got to worry bout that, I already handled that." Jerome said looking at his blunt nodding and I frowned. "What you mean you handled it?" I asked and he shrugged exhaling. "What do you think I mean?" He asked and on instinct I thought he was trying to tell me he killed him but Jerome is not that type of person. At least not when we was together, he wasn't that type of person. I just shrugged cause I ain't feel like thinking bout it anymore. "Come here." August said to me and I did sitting on his lap. He blew smoke in my face and I rolled my eyes. "Nigga." I said then smushed his face getting up. He laughed at me as I went to go sit down. My blunt was finished and I was a little mad cause I wanted more but I know I have kids to watch over so I'm not even going to get another one. I went in the kitchen and ate one of the left over burgers since I was hungry. I walked back still eating while they was talking. "Yo y'all niggas coming with me wether you like it or not." Travis said and I was confused, I have no clue what they are talking bout. "I'm dead ass not going, I wanna sleep in with my baby." August said then glanced at me causing me to smile. Jamal sucked his teeth as he finished off his blunt. "Nigga you just clung to her. But I'm down." He said and Craig's and Jerome agreed. "You not going nowhere Travis cause me and Chandra going to the hookah lounge later and your staying with Callie." Tima said coming in with Chandra. Travis sucked his teeth and I know for sure he was getting ready to start a argument so I just said something. "I'll keep all yall kids cause I don't want to hear no arguing right now, just know you not leaving before 9." I said and they shrugged. My living room was now smelling like weed so I lit some candles and sprayed air freshener cause it was starting to bother me. "Yo so look I ain't going to have no time to talk bout this other than now so how bout I just have Brittney on the weekends." Jerome said sitting beside me. "I'm okay, just make sure you always have her to sleep by 8:30 cause if you let her go to sleep any later she's going to be super hyper the next day. She wakes up pretty early and usually expects food after she does which is usually around 7:30 am. Um other than that you should be fine but she's staring school in 2 weeks so you can drop her off in the mornings and I'll let you pick her up if I can't make it in the afternoons." I told him and he nodded. "Ight, I'll come get her next weekend then cause I got to go." He said getting up. "We won't be here next weekend." "Where you going?" Him and August asked at the same time. "I have interviews all next week and some of them are out of state so I won't be here but the two of you are welcome to come." He nodded. "Alright be here Thursday at five." He nodded again then him and Craig left. "Hold on where are you four going?" I asked Travis. "Oh we going to the strip club." I nodded and went upstairs to me room. I went in the shower since I smelled like a strong amount of weed. I washed for 20 minutes then got out walking to my closet. I put on a pink and yellow push up bra and panty set, black and white Adidas shorts and a black tank. I walked back into my room and laid in my bed turning on the tv. The shower was running so I knew August was in there. I was so tired I actually started dozing off. I was almost sleep till I felt something brushing up against my foot. I sighed and looked down to see the three musketeers trying to get on my bed but they was so small and it was so high up they couldn't. I helped the three of them up on the bed and looked at them. "What do you need?" I asked still trying to keep my eyes closed. I heard the shower stop and I was just hoping August came out fully dressed. "Can we have cookies?" "No Britt, maybe after you guys eat dinner." I heard them all sigh. "Can we eat then?" Callie asked with her quiet voice. "Can you tell me what time it is?" I asked. "It's a this number." I opened my eyes and seen Aaron with 5 fingers up. "And this one." Then he held up two fingers. "And that one." He said then tried holding up 7 fingers but didn't get it. I laughed a little and smiled. "Well then no, you guys won't eat dinner till the time says 7. 0. 0." I said showing them with my fingers. They all sighed and looked sad. When August came out the bathroom, fully dressed thank god, i seen a smile come on their faces. "Uncle can we have cookies?" Brit said. "What your mother say?" He asked. "No." He nodded. "Then there's your answer." They pouted but Callie sucked her teeth. "Let's go ask my daddy." She said and they all nodded. "Bye mommy" Britt said waving and they all jumped off the bed and left out closing the door together. August got in the bed and moved me closer to me. "I know you tired so just go to sleep." He said then kissed my lips. I kissed back and closed my eyes. "I love you." He said. "Love you too." I said finally getting the sleep that I needed dearly.
