Chapter Eleven

Third Person P.O.V

Mason expected to be face first down on the ground, beaten. Pearson had never been afraid to beat him for the smallest things, and he expected Carter to be no different. He didn't expect Carter to hand him a shot of whiskey.

"To Jessica!" The gang leader raised his glass, and Mason did the same.

"To Jessica." Both men drank their liquor, as Marcus poured himself a shot.

"Jessica won't do anything you ask of her. She has a sense of right and wrong. She hates herself for tracking those people, and you're going to make her do it again." Mason explained.

"Yes, but this time she'll have some motivation. I'm sure that Jessica will do anything and everything I ask." Carter laughed.

"Why?"

"Because I have her greatest weakness right here." Carter grabbed Mason's chin, laughing. "I know that Jess loves you. She'll do anything I ask as long as I don't hurt you." Mason shoved the gang leader away.

"She doesn't love me." The boy whispered.

"I saw the way she looked at you. She was going to stay with you, when you got captured in my net that night in Nevada. Jessica was ready to give up her freedom for you. I know you love her too, there is no use in denying it." He accused.

"I think it's so romantic." Drew breathed. "Two kids on the run find love in the most unexpected place. Sounds like a good book or a movie with Ryan Gosling." Marcus laughed.

"I think that you are wrong.  Jess may like me, even love me, but you can't force her to become your little tracker again, she can't do it again. It destroyed her." Mason whispered, as the door swung open again, and there stood an angry Ryder.

"Ryder!" Mason stood up, and gave his friend a hug. "How did you escape? Where have you been this whole time? Where is Jess? Alexis?" He shot question after question at Ryder, until the man grabbed Mason by the neck.

"What the hell?" He coughed, scratching Ryder's fingers.

"You said that Ellie would be safe. That was our deal! And what does Cole get delivered to his doorstep? Her head! You killed her!" Ryder accused, lifting Mason higher.

"Ryder, listen. I didn't kill your sister. Just put Mason down." Carter said, slipping his hand into his pocket.

"You killed someone important to me, so I'm going to kill someone valuable to you. How about your little connector?" Ryder shoved Mason, and pulled out his gun, placing it at the boy's forehead.

"Please Ry." Mason gasped for air as he begged for his life. "Please don't do this." Ryder's eyes met his, as he sighed. He released the boy as Carter drew his own gun.

"I didn't kill Ellie." Carter repeated. "I didn't break our deal." Mason was coughing on the ground, as he crawled away from Ryder. Drew knelt by him, helping him into a chair.

"What deal?" Marcus asked, as Ryder continued to point his gun at Carter.

"He said if I worked for him, I got him Jessica, that he wouldn't harm my sister. And Ellie is dead! Our deal is off, and I'm a free man." He laughed.

"You should have run Ryder. You shouldn't have come back here." Carter warned, as Marcus drew his gun as well.

"I came for my wife." Drew gasped as Ryder smiled at her. "Drew, it can just be me and you again. We could get that house in Miami, have the kids you always wanted, remember? A boy named Marius and a girl named-"
