**the year is 2040 FYI**

I tried to keep the tears at bay as the elevator went up one level after the other but it was hard considering the day I was about to face.

I've known Mr. Alexander Stavros for three years now and today was the day I would have to say goodbye to him. I've spent five days a week, sometimes six, working in his office, going to meetings with him, travelling across the world with him. He might be in his seventies but he's my friend, my only friend really.

He's taught me a lot of things that I will never forget and has given me so many great opportunities. But today is the day that he steps down and his son, Leonardo Stavros steps in officially.

I've met Leo a few times here and there when he comes into the office. He's been around a lot more recently so he could be prepared to really take over the company. I haven't spoken very much to him but that will all change.

Soon I'll be spending my Saturdays with him, bringing him coffee, going to meetings, travelling the world, and being at his beck and call twenty-four seven. Frankly, I don't know if I'm ready for it.

I've grown so used to Mr. Stavros sitting in the office next door that I don't think I'll like having his own son taking his spot.

Leo isn't like his father at all; he never smiles, never laughs, doesn't apologize for anything he does, and always has his eyes as hard as stones. People coward away when he walks by them, they whisper his name in secret because they're afraid of what he would do if he heard his name being spoken.

I think everyone in the company is going to miss Mr. Stavros' presence.

I breathed in a mouthful of oxygen preparing myself for what was to come before the elevator doors opened. Everything looked normal, Kelly was sitting in her usual spot at the front receptionist desk, Jose was doing laps around with his mug of coffee in his hand like every other morning, and Ryan was leaning against his door jamb, waiting for his bagel. It's the same as every other day except I can feel the gloominess that everyone possesses. They aren't ready for the big change either.

I say hello to Kelly as I pass by and walk down the hallway to hand the sesame seed bagel to Ryan with a smile, getting one back in return. "Thanks doll," he said cheerfully before retreating back into his office.

Seconds later I'm joined by Jose who runs to catch up with me.

"It's a big day."

"It is," I answered, swiping a stack of papers from my inbox in the middle of the open room. "Are you ready?"

"I'm kind of nervous but excited you know?"

"When are you not excited for something Jose," I teased him.

"My niece's birthday party this weekend, I'm not prepared to face those party clowns."

"Clowns," I asked, "really?"

"Hey everyone has their fears! I bet you're afraid of something too."

I shook my head. "When you find what I'm afraid of tell me, alright? I would like to know."

Jose scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"How is your grandfather doing by the way?" We stopped in front of my desk which was placed right in front of Xander's office. A few feet away from my desk was an empty one where Eve, Mr. Stavros's former secretary used to sit. But she had been replaced by a HelpBot two years ago when they came out to the public.

HelpBots, as well as many other new technologies were invented during The Creation Revolution. I was only six when the revolution took the world by storm, lasting five years for it to settle down. From it many companies including the Stavros's changed the world with their new technology.
